I discovered this track only about ten years ago. It
made a pretty shy appearance on the Hot 100, peaking at
31 in 1990, I believe. The US commercial CD single has
several versions. Curious as to which was the 45
version, and if it is featured on this CD, presumably
any of the first three?

my promo cd single for the song 'the secret garden (sweet
seduction suite)' by quincy jones featuring barry white,
al b. sure!, james ingram and el debarge was issued on
qwest pro-cd-3890 and contains 3 tracks as listed below
1-part I featuring al b. sure! and james ingram (4:23
listed; 4:23 actual)
2-part II featuring el debarge and barry white (4:23
listed; 4:23 actual)
3-lp version (6:40 listed; 6:40 actual)
the notes on the promo cd singles' face states 'produced
by quincy jones; associate producer: rod temperton;
recorded and mixed by bruce swedien; and parts 1 & 2 are
remixed by mick guzauski...
the commercial cassingle is issued as qwest 19992
and contains two tracks
1-vocal remix (6:40 listed; 6:40 actual)
2-instrumental remix (6:40 listed; 6:40 actual)
even though the cassingle states the version as 'vocal
remix' it's the same version as the 6:40 lp version on
the promo cd single....

Thanks Ed, I suppose one of the first two tracks was the
one used for airplay.

This cracked the national Top 40 on sales alone I'm pretty certain. It
went to 20 on Hot 100 sales from the R&B audience buying the single
at the chain stores but never cracked the airplay Top 40 side. The guys
also performed it together on Oprah so that helped spur crossover
sales as well. If I recall right it was the lowest Top 40 charter in 1990 to
be certified Gold. I heard it played heavily while it was a current on R&B
station WJLB Detroit in its complete album version. The only time I
heard it on Top 40 radio was on American Top 40 and I think they
played part one of the
promo but I can't be 100 percent certain. I just recall it wasn't the full
track.
