There are either 3 or 4 versions of "Clarity" (and that's excluding any dance remixes) and I'm trying to determine if there really is a 4th version. Here's what I find:

(1) "album version" 4:28 (this is the only one in the database)
(2) "acoustic version" 3:24 (this is not in the database but probably should be. Pat, this is on "Clarity / Deluxe Edition" Interscope B0019132-02). It's basically just piano and voices. The regular album version is also on this Deluxe Edition, so perhaps that's why this version is not listed in the database. I'm not sure of your rules on this.)
(3) "short radio edit" 3:47
(4) "radio edit" 3:55

The last two are on TM Century HitDiscs. I have the "short radio edit" (3:47) on their disc HU201418

It's the "radio edit" (3:55) that I question - if it exists or not. It's listed on several HitDiscs that I don't have (HA201305, HP201305, HU201304, PM0313, 1979N and 5824N). Does anyone know if this version exists and is unique? Aaron, could you possibly shed some light? You often know a lot about these TM mixes, especially those of recent years.

Interestingly, before getting the HitDisc with the 3:47 "short radio edit", I tried to create it from the album version, and was successful until the 3:45 point. But the last 2 seconds are not on the album version - they are a unique part that was added on to the "short radio edit", which ends very suddenly/abruptly (but not in a bad way.) However, interestingly, my failed attempt to create the "short radio edit" - it obviously didn't have the 2-second cold end, but the end that was originally on the album (which echoes some keyboards and voices) ... and it clocked in at almost the same time as the "radio edit"! So I'm wondering if that's what the "radio edit" is. Does anyone know?

One might think that the 3:47 and 3:55 times listed in TM database are just inconsistencies in determining the time, or extra blank space at the end of one version; I would agree with this possibility - except for the fact that these 2 different times are specifically listed as "radio edit" and "short radio edit" - and the "short" version is definitely shorter according to the times listed.

Gordon,

I subscribe to TM's Prime Cuts and I have the radio edit
on HP201305. It runs 3:55.

Can you explain how the "radio edit" ends on your HP disc? Does it end very suddenly on the word "clarity" (with 2 kick drums, one on "clar" and one on "ty")? Or does it end just like the album version - after the final "clarity", does the "ty" echo several times, with the strings and keyboards coming back in, and closing with 2 ride cymbals?

I'm trying to figure out how the radio edit differs from the "short radio edit" (which I have on a different TM CD.)

The radio edit ends with the 'ty' echoing and the
strings, keyboard coming back, finishing with the 2
cymbals.

Yes, with John G's help, I was able to compare the two. This "radio edit" seems to coincide with the edit I created from the album version, where I could only match up the first 3:45 of the "short radio edit" and then was left with a 7-second tag from the album version. So the "radio edit" can be edited from the album version. But the "short radio edit" has two last seconds that are unique to it.

That said, I didn't A-B the versions to check for microscopic mix details or anything. But overall, just listening, these 2 edits just differ in their endings.

FYI, the TM Studios "HU" discs are "UK" discs, meaning that the content is intended for airplay in the UK. Many of the edits on this series are UK radio edits that different from what was released in the US.
