Strange but true as they say…no one on this board has mentioned the terrific upcoming release on March 27 of Herman’s Hermits “Best Of Herman’s Hermits – the 50th Anniversary Anthology”. This is a 2 cd set assembled by Ron Furmanek that will contain 66 tracks, 56 of which appear in true stereo for the very first time along with a terrific book. To avoid licensing control in the U.S. by ABKCO, the cd is being released as an import on the Bear Family label and their price if you order directly from them is $33.99 + at least $8 shipping so I contacted Disc Collector (303-841-3000) to see if they could give our members better pricing and sure enough they said for members of this web site, they would offer this set for $27.99 so if you are interested, give Disc Collector a call and you must mention Top 40 Music On Compact Disc to preorder this great 2015 release. Here is the track lineup:

CD 1:
Only Last Night (Feb 1964 Demo) • I’m Into Something Good • Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter • Kansas City Loving •
Sea Cruise • Walkin’ With My Angel • Show Me Girl • I Understand (Just How You Feel) • Mother-In-Law • Your Hand In Mine •
Thinkin' Of You • Wonderful World • Just A Little Bit Better • Hold On! • Leaning On The Lamp Post • A Must To Avoid • My Reservation’s

Thinking What I’m Thinking • You Won’t Be Leaving • Dandy • Jezebel • No Milk Today • Little Miss Sorrow Child Of Tomorrow
• Gaslite Street • Rattler • East West • What Is Wrong What Is Right • Mum & Dad • My Sentimental Friend • Years May Come
Years May Go
CD 2:
Thinking Of You (Feb 1964 Demo) • Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat • I’m Henry The Eighth, I Am • The End Of The World • For
Your Love • I Gotta Dream On • Don’t Try To Hurt Me • Silhouettes • I’ll Never Dance Again • Tell Me Baby • Listen People • Bus

Thanks Pat. For true stereo music fans this is an
incredible opportunity to get all the hit single versions
and more in fresh new mixes. Mastered by Mark Mathews and
produced (as Pat mentioned above) by Ron Furmanek. I would
encourage anyone who reads this to not only order a copy of
this two disc set but spread the word to everyone else you
know who may have an interest in this import. If this CD
set sells well we may get lucky and see more future
releases as exciting as this one (surely to be the best
oldies release in the first quarter of 2015).

BTW, the US 45 of "There's A Kind Of Hush" with the reverb
and double tracked vocal appears on this set.

In my opinion, the wide stereo mix on "There's A Kind of Hush" is worth the price of admission. A lot of the later tracks really sound fantastic, I never thought that "Dandy" could sound that great! The package features several extended fades and some new cold endings. The early tracks have the same two track sound you'd hear on an early Beatles stereo recording, complete with some bleed through between the two channels, but that's to be expected. Nicely done. Going back to "There's A Kind of Hush", you get a much wider mix than the Abkco stereo mix without the sledgehammer compression of the original single. This release does have the overdubs which are featured at the end of the 45, but it may be missing a little tape echo on Peter's voice that I believe I hear throughout the 45. But the massive compression on the 45 may be playing tricks on me.
