Did a search with no luck. Anyone know how to create the
3:58 DJ edit of "Satisfied" from Richard Marx?

This is from a post from Todd from November 2004:
Quote:
RICHARD MARX - SATISFIED (EMI DPRO 04254)
1) Single Version - 3:58
2) LP Version - 4:12
3) AOR Mix - 4:12
Comments: Pat notes in the 10th edition that the "actual 45 time is 4:10 not 3:58 as stated on the record label". Curiously, the first track on this promo CD is listed as the "Single Version" and actually does clock in at 3:58 (the intro is edited compared to that of the LP Version and fades out :04 sooner). It may simply be that EMI originally planned to release the 3:58 version on commercial cassette and vinyl single formats but for whatever reason the 4:12 version was pressed instead and it was too late to change the printed run time on the label. As a result, the 3:58 edit wound up being serviced exclusively to radio stations. I suppose there's also a possibility that there might've been two pressings of this single, each with different run times. But until such evidence surfaces, I'll accept Pat's notations as accurate and the "Single Version" as it appears on this promo disc will be considered a radio edit, not the actual 45 version.
My conclusion: DJ copies of this single run (3:58) and (4:12); actual run time of commercial copies were all (4:10), not (3:58) as stated on the label |

I seem to remember that there was something in the intro that wouldn't allow you to edit the LP version down to the promo single version, but I'll have to check tonight.

Yup - you can't edit the LP version down to form the promo single version.
The promo single version removes the 16 beats immediately following the opening snare, and edits on the downbeat.
It would be a really easy edit, except that the LP version has a vocal "yeah-eah" that starts before the edit point and extends after the edit point, from about the 9.5 second mark to the 10.5 second mark. That "yeah-eah" is mixed out of the promo single version, and we don't have any way to take it out of the mix after the fact.
FYI, the fade of the promo single version starts at the same point as the LP version, but fades more quickly. It reduces the length of the fade by about 12 beats, or about 7 seconds.
