The LP/commercial 45 version runs 4:31 on The Distance. My copy is an old early-'80s era CD pressing, from W. Germany. I can't imagine the '80s-era US release would have been much different. The database shows that this is the only CD that includes the song, so your choices are limited.
Here are editing instructions to recreate the promo 45 version from the LP/commercial 45 version, using The Distance as the source:
Segment 1
8 beats long, not counting the 2-hit drum fill that begins the song
Extends from 0:00.0 to 0:03.5 of both the LP/commercial 45 and the promo 45 versions
Ends on a downbeat
Remove the 32 beats from 0:03.5 to 0:15.9 of the LP/commercial 45 version
Segment 2
Begins on a downbeat
Extends from 0:03.5 to 4:03.7 of the promo 45 version
Extends from 0:15.9 to 4:16.1 of the LP/commercial 45 version
Fade
Extends from 3:55.6 to 4:03.7 of the promo 45 version
Extends from 4:08.0 to 4:16.1 of the LP/commercial 45 version
Your mixdown will run 4:03.7, with one edit at 0:03.5.
I'll link to this thread from the Bob Seger 45 versions thread.
