Paul Lekakis - Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room) was released as a single in 1986 / 1987, and didn't make it to an album (or a CD) until 1990 on "Tattoo It."

I know that there is a length difference; my question is, is the 45 single just an edit of the LP version, or actually a different mix?

Based on a video I've found online of an '86 lip-sync, it sounds like the intro may be cropped, then edited before he starts talking, and then faded early (maybe).

(The local 80s station is playing the 2007 remix.) *eyeroll*

A 45 dub is on the way to you.

Interesting!

I can confirm now (thank you, Aaron) that there are NO edits from the LP version to the commercial single version...

...until the LAST TWELVE SECONDS.

The instrumental section at the end which leads into the fade is completely different from anything on the LP version and sounds pasted on. It is not in the LP version and therefore the single version canNOT be re-created from the LP version.

Now, my suspicion is that that instrumental end may come from another part of the 12"... but I have neither time nor patience to check tonight.

To duplicate the commercial single's length, if not the sound, cut off the last 20 seconds of the file from the CD "Tattoo It" and fade to taste.

(I might also mention the LP version runs almost 1% FASTER than the single dub I got, but I cannot confirm the turntable speed... I do not know if there is an actual speed difference between the two.)

If you need me, I'll be in the backyard with a power drill trying to get "boom boom boom let's go back to my room so we can do it all night and you can make me feel right" out of my head.

EDIT: also, one of the videos online for sure edits the intro; I wonder if that was a radio edit or just an edit for the program?

I have this song on a TM Century compilation disc (the
series now out of print.) My copy runs 3:55. Is this the
single or the LP version faded?

Good question, John!

If your version, at the end sounds like Paul just stopped singing and the background music is the same, that's the LP version faded early.

If your version sounds almost like there was a key change in the last 12 seconds, musically different from what just came before when Paul was singing, that's the single version.

This is the single version.

This is the LP version.

Listen to those last 12 seconds; that will tell you which version you have.

Happy to say what I have is the single version. Thanks for
the update.

That's fantastic news, John! Does it seem to be from a tape source, or is it a needle drop?

I have the same disc John does. It's from a tape/CD source.

Aaron may also have located another source of the single version on CD (although neither of us have this disc to confirm):

K-Tel International - The '80s: Nightclubbing

Again, I can't guarantee this CD has the single version, but it exactly the same length as the single (and the exact same length as the track on the T.M. Century disc).
