The database mentions a "faded version" for radio; is that simply an early fade of the song?
(I'm 99% sure the station I worked for played the LP version; I remember it ending cold.)

That's exactly right. They simply faded the song early.

My faded version fades from 4:00 to 4:12.

Revisiting this one; does anybody remember top 40 stations in your area at the time playing the full version or the faded version?

My recollection is it was one of those times where the
record company supplied a shorter version of the cut simply
so programmers wouldn't balk at the length of the cut when
the promotion department was "going for adds".
No thought was put into the "editing" knowing that the
track was already receiving AOR support & unsolicited CHR
airplay and Atlantic knew that when it was on the air the
listeners would "demand" the full version as the short
version simply sounds like the DJ dumped the song early...

TM Century has both the faded version and album versions in
their library. However, when they issued the song on a
Golddisc, they serviced the album version.

Andy I'm with you; that early fade is AWFUL. In my head I thought it might work but it just sounds like old-school automation getting ready for satellite news to start.
I'm usually pretty accepting of edits and early fades and the like, but this one's hard to justify.
I wonder if any stations played the fade consistently through the song's chart run? It's hard to imagine.
