Rhino Debuts That's Aught: The '00s Pop Culture Box Their First Digital Only Boxed Set
Los Angeles — Rhino Records, Warner Music Group’s renowned catalog label, as part of their ongoing 40th anniversary celebration, has launched today That’s Aught: The ’00s Pop Culture Box, the label’s first ever digital-only boxed set. The collection follows in the tradition of Rhino’s previous decade-specific pop culture boxes from the past that focused on the 1970s (Have A Nice Decade), 1980s (Like, Omigod!) and 1990s (Whatever). That’s Aught: The 2000s Pop Culture Box is available now to stream on Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube.
Arranged in (roughly) chronological order, the 150 song collection melds the tracks that defined the decade across all genres, from pop and hip-hop radio hits to the sounds of underground rock and dance movements. Not only is That’s Aught: The ‘00s Pop Culture Box the first Rhino boxed set to live exclusively in the digital space, but it is also the first to be compiled by the collective minds of all the Rhino Records staff, the cream of the crop in terms of music and pop culture knowledge, with countless hours of debate leading to the final list.
Launching with *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” That’s Aught blasts the listener back to the first moments of the new millennium with massive hits Madonna (“Music”), U2 (“Beautiful Day”), and Destiny’s Child (“Survivor”) to early tracks from future superstar acts like Coldplay (“Yellow”), Linkin Park (“In The End”), and Alicia Keys (“Fallin’”).
The next nine hours weaves through ten years of songs as eclectic as the decade itself, from The White Stripes to The Flaming Lips, from Eminem to Missy Elliott, from Gnarls Barkley to Daft Punk, wrapping up with some of 2009’s definitive tracks from Jason Derulo, The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, and Muse.
In conjunction with this new collection, Rhino has also launched streaming versions of some of their most beloved physical boxed sets, replicated with identical tracks and sequencing, with the only exception being the handful of songs that are not available on streaming services.

Unfortunately, with the '90s box and now the '00s box, there are several obscure, non-hit songs. I know the hit music of the '00s pretty well, and there are quite a few tracks I've never even heard of before.

So, the question is...how many 45 or single versions and
how many songs are the censored versions (if applicable.)

This one got quite a bit of airplay at least around here.
I don't consider it one of her better songs, I remember
wondering why everyone was making such a fuss over her
(this was before she really hit it big).

The Adele track is a legitimate hit, but it received no CHR airplay in my
area. That's probably why it slipped by me when it first came out.

Chasing Pavements was a sleeper hit for Adele and a very good one at that. The 19 album was nowhere near as good as the 21 and 25 masterpieces, but it also contains a cover of Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan. The difference between 19 and 21 in this case is maturity and a more polished writing style. I have yet to hear anything during the 2010-2018 period which would make be believe Adele's 21 won't be looked upon as a classic in about 20-30 years.
Not a bad track listing, but NOW That's What I Call Music Volumes 5 through 33 would give you a way better selection then that box would and would be more highly reflective of the hits of the 2000's. Just my opinion.

Is it my imagination or does this seem to have less big hits compared to Rhino's "Omigod '70s Pop Culture Box" or the '80s equivalent. Maybe I just don't know as many hits from the '00s compared to the earlier decades, but it seems like this is less hit-heavy.

PS I'm surprised Rhino waited this long and didn't put out the '00s boxed set around 2010 or '11.
Also, we're only about a year away from the '10s decade being over (gosh, as I write that, I can't believe that's the case), so I wonder if Rhino will do a '10s boxed set shortly after the decade ends or also wait about a decade.
It's obvious why the '70s boxed set came out many years after the decade ended, but there's no real good reason why the '00s one had to take this long. Maybe Rhino thought it would have more of a "nostalgic" value if they waited 9 years. Still, with the way the CD boom has been un-booming, and while there seems to be less interest in buying CDs, or in this case, even digital music (when streaming is free), I think they would have been wiser to put out the '00s box set in 2010, and not when it's nearly 2019.

I believe it to be a race between the end of the decade and the next Drake album to hold the Hot 100 hostage. You decide which will come first....

Yep, that was exactly my point made above. This box set is less "pop culture" and more obscure indie and alternative.

I wouldn't expect much to be released that were huge hits for those 10 years considering. That is why they went with a lot of indie and alternative. Even the 90's one was okay.
