Peaked just under the Top 40 (#48 in 1989). 45 label states a running time of 3:57, just want to know if anyone has this 45 and can confirm the length. Also would like to know if the Single Version is on CD anywhere. Only Discogs listing for a CD Single is in the UK which has the Album Version running about 4:41. There's also a European 3" CD Single that has the song and his previous chart hit, "I'm Not Your Man" as well as one more song, but no running times are listed for any of them. Any help is appreciated with this.

Dan, My 45 RPM single, Columbia 38-08505, has a stated time of 3:57, but actually has a run time of 4:17.6. The Tommy Conwell CD does not state what the time is, but I will put it in the player and report back.

I'm back. The Tommy Conwell 'Rumble' (Columbia CK-44186) CD runs 4:44 total with .03 seconds silence at the end of the track, so, 4:41 total. On the CD, 'If we never meet again' ends cold and the 45 single fades. So it does not appear that the single has any edits. I can report back with the fade start point, if you already have the CD. -Bill.

Yes, thanks Bill, that would be great. I do have the CD
and even though I don't know how to do edits, I can
definitely do early fades.

I guess I may have bitten off more than I can chew. 1) there is a speed difference. 2) The CD has 2 choruses at the end and then about 15 seconds of instrumentation before the cold ending. The single starts a third chorus before it fades out completely. I haven't checked mix differences. EEEK!! -Bill.

I have a file from TM Studios. The fade starts at 3:58 on
the byes of goodbyes and fades completely out by 4:12 on
the at the end of the word again.

I have both the full-length CD Rumble and the promo 45. Time permitting, I'll compare the two.

I had a chance to A/B the 45 and CD today, and the 45 version is an edit of the LP version. There are three edits in total:

1. 0:07.8 to 0:15.8 deleted (intro cut in half)
2. 2:58.2 to 3:02.2 deleted (instrumental section slightly trimmed)
3. 4:01.3 to 4:17.3 looped and then faded out

There are no mix differences and no significant speed differences between the 45 and CD.

The TM Century copy John references comes from a HitDisc and is NOT correct. Rather than dubbing the 45 from vinyl, they attempted to re-create the edit. The edit points are slightly off, and they did not loop the ending.

Thanks Aaron! I was stumped. I A-B'd them at 2:40 and at 3:15, and thought they were only a little bit off. I 'assumed' it was a speed difference. Certainly the Columbia engineers wouldn't trim a few seconds in the middle of the song! The loop at the end made sense. Thanks again! -Bill.
