The album version of Marc Anthony's "I Need to Know"
runs 3:47. The promo CD single for "I Need to Know"
contains a shorter version running 3:31 as track 1 and
the album version as track 2.

Know/release/5060335

There is an even shorter version featured on the
promotional CD Promo Only Mainstream Radio: August
99
running 3:17.

Mainstream-Radio-August-99/release/5231785

How do both shorter edits differ each other from the
album version?

The album version's intro is twice as long... both the
initial part (with the violins/strings) is repeated,
as is the instrumental part with the horns and drums.
It's about 31 seconds until the vocal comes in.

The album version also contains a conga drum solo
starting at 2:14, and the ending acapella chorus is
repeated 2x vs 1x on the single edit.

I'm only familiar with the shortest version (which is
also on Top Hits USA's RH56 CD and runs 3:19 there but
includes their standard "Ultrasonic Q" tone at the
end). Based on the time difference, my guess is that
the 3:31 version has the same intro as the album
version but omits the conga solo and has the shorter
acapella ending.

I have the promo cd single (CSK 42471). The runtime on
track 1 is incorrect. The 3:17 version you are
mentioning from promo only and top hits is the same.
There is no 3:31 version to my knowledge. There are 3
edit points of the album version to arrive at the 3:17
version.

It seems that the music video for "I Need to Know" uses
the 3:17. Can anyone confirm this?

I found a 3:31 version which is a remix known as "Track
Masters Remix" rather than an edit.

This remix appears on most of the "I Need to Know"
entries on Discogs, so it is possible that the runtime on
track 1 of the promo CD single (CSK 42471) was a misprint
since the single version actually runs 3:17.
