Trying to make sense out of "Set the Night to Music" by Roberta Flack and
Maxi Priest.

Looks like the album version runs 5:23.
The single version (which I'm also seeing labeled Radio Edit) is 4:39.
But the video is 4:12 (and maybe even more like 4:10 as it starts a second
or 2 late).

The first change to my ears comes around 3:20 on the album version where
there's an extra round of "woahs" compared to the video, but is that it? And
are these 3 different versions? I can't find a single version for a good
comparison.

Any insight?

The video versions can differ from what's actually released. I don't believe that the video version was ever released on record or CD.

The promo CD single has the Edit (4:42) as track 1, and the LP version (5:22) as track 2.

I'm pretty sure that the Edit can be edited down from the LP version, but I haven't done that comparison.

This one was really easy - one edit and an early fade.

Here are editing instructions based on timings from the promo CD single (other CDs should be really close):

Segment 1
Extends from 0:00 to 3:15.4 of LP version and Edit
Ends on a downbeat following Roberta's vocal of "yeah-ee-eah"

Delete the 16 beats from 3:15.4 to 3:31.1 of the LP version.

Segment 2
Extends from 3:15.4 to 4:43 of Edit
Extends from 3:31.1 to 4:59 of LP version

Fade
Extends from 4:28 to 4:43 of Edit
Extends from 4:44 to 4:59 of LP version

This song is getting play on Sirius/XM's "The Blend" which
was rebranded in the last week or so.

Hey @crapfromthepast, huge thank you!! Worked perfectly. Good to know I
was thinking along the right track. Appreciate it.

@eriejwg I haven't heard it on the Blend yet, but that is a station I listen to.
They changed twice in the last month really. Went from 80s till now AC
(where it was for years), to 70s/80s pop (things like Tony Orlando, Mouth
and McNeal) for about 2 weeks, and now tweaked to be less 70s pop, to
having some of the 80s/90s come back. So it makes sense that "Set the
Night to Music" fits the latest incarnation!

I'm not sure what their justification is for what they're doing vs. the old
"Love" on channel 70 is....it's almost like they were taking it in that
direction, then didn't, now are again.
