How is there not a thread on this awesome 1983-1984 song?
So while researching 1984, I ask does anyone have this 45 promo? It appears to time in at 3:50. The 45 version runs 4:00, but all versions on CD appear to run about 4:04.

There must be an easy edit here to recreate the 45 promo. The 45 version is just a quick fade I think at around 4:00 to match the playing 45 (playing :18 to 4:18). I heard some other 45's and it leaves the last 2-3 seconds of the girls in the background out.

The song actually has a few different run times. The 1982
album All In A Night's Work has a 4:16 length. Epic
records did not release the song as a single in 1982
because the of the disco backlash a few years earlier. KC
10 was released by independent lable Meca Records in 1983
and has the 4:03 version. They decided to release the song
as a single and had success. So the 3:50 run time on
the 45 is accurate and just fades earlier than both album
versions I am assuming.

I'll double check my promo 45 and add the run time info to the database. Currently, the database only has a note about the stock 45 running 3:59.

Another thing I hadn't discovered until now is that the original 1982 LP version has an extra 7.5 seconds at the 3:27 mark that was edited out of the 1983 LP/45 version.

KFI in Los Angeles played the slightly longer 45 version of
"Give It Up", rather than the promo 45 version (at 8:50 in
the MP3 file):

So just to clarify the 45 promo runs 3:50, the 45 itself runs 4:00 and the listed time on the label is 3:50, right Aaron?

Based on the video link in your original post, the promo 45 runs 3:48. I still need to pull my copy of the promo 45 and time it to be sure, but the video looks accurate.
