The Canadian chart book indicates that Tim Moore's "Second Avenue" charted
twice in Canada, and one version was longer than the other - but no timing
details. Does anyone know the lengths of these 2 versions? I assume on is the
LP length. I know we have some people here from Canada. But if anyone can
help, it's much appreciated.

I actually like the shorter version better. The record has a printed time of
2:27. Here is what it looks like:

Gordon, I have both on american issue 45RPM records. The first, Asylum E-45208 A states the time as 3:51 and is
actually 3:54. It is the hit version and is virtually identical with the LP and the CD that I have on Edsel. The
other is on Asylum E-45427-B and is the 'B' side of 'Strengthen My Love' from his 3rd album, 'White Shadows'. The
label says 2:27 and runs 2:31. It sounds like an edit of the 3:54 original. On the 3:54, he repeats the chorus and
the last verse. On the 2:31, there is no repetition. -Bill.

Thanks. My first guess was since he repeats the last verse & a chorus, then
that's what they took out. I was just wondering if there might be something
longer than the album version, since the Canadian book didn't go into details.

Upon further listening, they took out the first chorus and the third verse and left the
second chorus and the repeated third verse. -Bill.

Isn't this what they did with the Art Garfunkel version? They originally release a 4 minute
version and later they cut it down to 2 and a half minutes or so? Strange. -Bill.

ChicagoBill - you mention that it’s the b-side for the short version. I have a
promo for the short version and since it’s stereo/mono with Second Avenue
being the only song. I recall this shortened version was released in 1977. I
believe they tried to take another shot at making it a hit by making a big edit.
I assume then it’s the A-side. My record is Asylum E-45427-A on both sides.

(I noticed now 45cat shows two promos came out in 1977 with Second
Avenue as the a-side and Strengthen My Love as the b-side…along with
issuing the stereo/mono Second Avenue that I own).

Should have been a bigger hit!
