I thought we should all give Aaron our thoughts on what direction this should go.
So I'll go first:
For the discussion board:
1) Topics should be broken down by decade for easier organization (60's Discussion, 70's Discussion etc). That way those that have an interest in that particular era of Top 40 can easily find it.
2) A specific Off Topic section for lower rungs/non hot 100 hits that are huge airplay hits that we all know. I know in my case that would be helpful as I assemble the 60s and 70s lower rungs and try to seek availability and where to find them.
3) The database needs to include all Top 40 hits. Even if that means including the one's Pat left out. That way Aaron can post the most comprehensive listing on CD and even if that ups the cost a little its better than leaving critical top 40 hits out. At this point as long as position isn't mentioned from Billboard I think this is entirely feasible.
For the website itself:
4) Reviews of critical Top 40 releases on CD/digital. A perfect example is the Synchronicity deluxe set. Hearing Aaron's mastering views is a MUST READ for me. It would tempt me to buy a subscription for that reason if at times Aaron shared his thoughts on stuff that comes out.
5) A great front page. That speaks for itself.
As an extra feature for the database:
6) I've been working on making a list of Top 40 Radio Edits. I plan to share that with Aaron eventually. It would be a welcome edition to know that a radio edit is not on CD or know that a radio edit exists. Not all that information is in the database at the moment.
Some other thoughts...
These are just a few off the top of my head. You can even expand top 40 to start in 1940. That way collectors might be interested in all the stuff on CD from 1940-1954. I know I would. A few people I know from this site would too. Again even if Aaron ups the price a little that extra information is nowhere to be found. The 40's are still sought after to some people. That niche is worth considering.
Anyways Aaron keep up the good work. Any idea on a date that the new website and features will be up?

I agree on all points, especially on the reviews. Where
did I miss Aaron's comments on the Synchronicity box?

Richie: Point 6 seems wonderful to me.
In my opinion what is missing in the database is the year
of publication of the CDs.

These are all good suggestions. The problem is that they
would probably take Aaron about 5000 hours of work.

It was an example of material exclusive to paid members.

Adding the radio edit info is important to make the top 40 database accurate.

I appreciate the suggestions, gentlemen. I'll give my feedback on some of the above.
I'm currently looking into the forum software in hopes that we can update to a new version without losing any data and without having to spend many hours moving data to a new forum platform. As for breaking it down into more categories, perhaps a newer version of the forum software would allow for adding tags that could help with searching and categorizing thread topics.
Adding all Billboard Top 40 songs to the searchable database that are currently missing has been noted, and yes, that's doable.
I plan to remove the current "reviews" page of the site, which is something Pat and I discussed. It's not updated very frequently, and pretty much all of that information is already summarized in the searchable database. The "reviews" are basically the same information but in paragraph form.
As for mastering information, Ron and I talked about adding his notes and research to the database over time (i.e. "same analog transfer as [specific CD] but three beats shorter").
Regarding radio edits and promo versions, yes, we will continue adding that into the database where it's missing. Pat did a tremendous job detailing what he had access to, but I'm sure there are more that need to be added, especially in more recent years.
Adding CD release year has been noted, and yes, I had planned on adding that information, as I feel it would be helpful to know. While the discs are currently arranged loosely chronologically, seeing the release year in a separate column is definitely good info to have.
