Hi guys, how are you? I'm opening this thread regarding
The Police's single "Bring On the Night".
The LP version has a time of 4:15, and the US 45 version
(according to discogs) 3:17.

https://www.discogs.com/release/2300069-The-Police-Bring-
On-The-Night

Does any member have this US 45 version in flac or wav to
share with me, or know if it was released on CD.
I was looking on youtube, and a user uploaded the video,
it seemed that the version is sped up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMs_LATQ7xk

thanks for advance.

US promo 45 version, you mean. The retail 45 has the LP version.

Sorry I can't help though.

Exactly Mike, it's the US promo 45 version that I'm looking
for.
Thanks

Aaron is our resident Police superfan and him and I worked on finding EVERY Police 45, digital releases and gathering all of them up years ago. We both missed this apparently. It says on the 45 promo EDITED VERSION. I think taking away any of the song in an edit form is a cardinal sin. I heard the youtube video. It's not a bad edit if that is what it is. Until Aaron can get the promo 45 to confirm I reserve judgment.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Aaron you want to chime in?

Yeah, it's weird that we didn't spot this when we worked on our Police project. I ordered a copy of the promo 45. The YouTube video might be a dub of the vinyl, but I can't tell from the intro and fade due to poor audio quality.

The Japanese and Spanish versions have appeared on CD, but I'm not sure I knew there was an Italian version until just now. When Rich and I were working on gathering all the Police stuff we could find, we limited our research to US releases. There might be other non-US versions of Police songs I'm unaware of, but we definitely did miss the US promo 45 for "Bring On The Night."

I see you edited your post to read "Japanese," and in that case, yes. It's on this CD:

Aaron: I'm looking forward to hearing the details of the US
Promo 45 when you get your copy.

Forgive me for veering off onto a totally unrelated side story here, but several years ago, I spent nearly a full month visiting Colombia, South America and was struck by all the '80s pop and rock music hits, mostly by British artists it seemed, that I heard played in stores and shopping malls in a country where most people speak little to no English. In particular, I remember hearing no less than five different songs by The Police, and thus, I began wondering if the band had a large following in Colombia? Well, when I asked a native about this, he simply told me that the music is largely treated as "background ambience" and that most people in Colombia probably don't pay much attention to it. Anyway, I just found that very interesting and imagined what it would be like to be here in the U.S. and regularly hear "foreign" music from four decades ago in a different language at most retail and business establishments? :-)

It's my understanding that the Police were quite popular in
many Latin American countries and always drew big crowds to
their concerts there.

Your experience and vision of The Police in South America
is very interesting. Here in Argentina, The Police is a
well-known and popular band with many followers and fans.
It is one of the most influential bands in Argentine rock
(Soda Stereo, Charly García, Virus, Zas, etc.). It
emerged after the military dictatorship and the arrival
of democracy. The arrival of democracy allowed the entry
of cassettes and vinyl records of uncensored
international rock, so that people could understand what
happened in Argentina during the military governments.
You could only get a Police, Queen, or Bob Marley album
if you were lucky enough to travel abroad, or if a family
member or friend brought one with them when they left
Argentina. Everything else was censored, or the national
editions had some songs removed from the LP, etc.
Everything was controlled by the military, a terrible
time, but it existed.

Thank you for sharing that, Marcelo! I'd be very interested to know if other South American countries like Colombia ever went through a similar situation with censorship of international popular music? I really ought not further deviate from the original message board topic, however, so feel free to Private Message me more about this, if you'd like!
