Pat:
I'm thinking about purchasing Stevie Wonder's At the Close of a Century CD box set (Motown 012153992) and every track listing I've run across indicates that "Love Light in Flight" is on it. The database however does not reflect this. Would you mind double-checking your copy and make sure the song is on there? Thanks!

Yes Todd, "Love Light In Flight" is on the Stevie Wonder box set. I actually just bought a copy of the 45(comes in a nice looking picture sleeve also) for my collection since I didn't previously own one. The box set has the full LP version. To my knowledge the single edit has never been issued on CD.

I do have the LP version on The Woman in Red CD soundtrack so I'd be willing to try to edit it to match the 45 version if I had a copy of the vinyl 45 to compare it with. (Hint, hint) ;-)

The 45 edit of "Love Light In Flight" runs 4:36, while the full length version runs 6:54. I haven't A/B'ed them to compare where the edit points are, but I'm pretty sure the single version can be extracted from the long version. There is a US promo only 12" remix of this track that is a bit shorter than the soundtrack version running 6:30, and is quite different. I'm certain that the 45 edit is not taken from this version.

Todd, were you ever able to successfully create the single version of "Love Light In Flight" from the LP version?

John graciously sent me a dub of the 45 version from his "Love Light In Flight" promo 45. I used it as a guide for re-creating the 45 version from my "Woman In Red" soundtrack CD (by the way, the copy I used was the early Japan-for-US pressing on Motown MCD06108MD, which is not listed in the database).
The re-creation involves an out-of-sequence edit using the following sections of the LP version:
00:00:00 - 00:00:07.386
00:00:16.215 - 00:03:57.749
00:04:15.408 - 00:04:18.838
00:05:29.525 - 00:05:32.564
00:04:21.898 - 00:05:04.105
Apply a fade beginning at 00:04:53.938 (or 10.166 seconds from the end of the final edit)
The final cut should have edit points at:
00:00:07.386
00:03:48.919
00:03:52.349
00:03:55.388
fade begins at 00:04:27.429
Thanks again John!

"Love Light In Flight" also appears on Stevie Wonder's "Song Review - A Greatest Hits Collection" however it is not noted in the database. It is the LP version clocking in at 6:54.

Maybe on an import CD but certainly not on a US release. This is one of Stevie's songs that rarely has appeared on CD compilations of his or the label's.
