I'm gonna start to post listed version/timing details from the many 12"
singles I own, for songs that appear in the database. My plan is to mostly
concentrate on promo 12" copies we got in to the station, that may
contain unique versions. Quite often, both promo and stock 12" singles
for a song were made. Sometimes these included the exact same versions;
sometimes they didn't. I won't always know if my promo copies had a
corresponding stock 12" released. The labels also sent us "promo
stamped" stock 12" singles sometimes. I will only include specifics for
stock 12" versions if there are currently CDs in Pat's db that look like they
match up with them.
I can always go back and provide actual times, if requested. So many of
these versions are lengthy, and me attempting to time all tracks on all 12"
singles would slow any progress I'd make to a crawl. Listed times will
surely give us a good, general idea, as to db CDs that are a likely match.
First off is "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott. For this one, I own both
a promo 12" (Columbia CAS 2483) and a stock 12" (Columbia 44-05959)
single. Their contents are identical:
Side 1:
(Extended Club Mix) (listed time 6:02)
Side 2:
1-(Radio Edit) (listed 4:04)
2-(Instrumental) (listed 5:06)
Pat's db currently shows 4 CDs that run either (5:56) or (5:57), described
as "remix". I strongly suspect these 4 CDs are, in fact, the "Extended Club
Mix" found on Side 1 of both my promo/stock 12" singles.
I hope this information will prove to be of value, to at least some here on
the board.
