I played my 45 against the version from the 20th Century Masters
CD, and it sounds like the 45 is just a fade of the LP version. Or am
I missing something. Could anyone also compare and verify?

Yes Paul I agree the 45 is just an early fade of the LP.

Cool! Another one off the list (for me, anyway; if it's just an early
fade, that's something I can take care of with my equipment, and not
have to shop for a particular CD. I understand your reasoning for
listing versions the way you do and do not disagree.) Thanks for
