Since "Got to Have Loving" only peaked at #44, there's no printed info on it. I'm trying to edit together the single version from the "Best Disco in Town" (Hot Productions) CD, but there are parts missing -- So, does anyone know if the single version appears on CD anywhere, and if not, does the full-length version appear anywhere? The one on "Best Disco In Town" clocks in at 4:04 and is some kind of edit, but not the single edit.

I have "Got to Have Loving" on a different disco
compilation CD. However, it's one of those collections
where all of the songs are segued together, so I can't
give you an exact run time, only that it's a little over
3:00 (according to Joel Whitburn's "Pop Annual", the
single version clocked in at [3:32]). I also have Ray's
original 1978 album, "The Garden of Love", on cassette,
but unfortunately, it's packed away at the moment, so I
can't compare the album version to the one on my disco
CD. So what should I listen for on my disco CD to
determine if it's the single version you
seek???

Since the version on your disco CD is 3:00, it won't be the 3:32 single version (which I have on vinyl.)But I have since found a friend who has the long (album?) version of this song on CD, so at some point I'll get it from him and do the proper edit. It's mostly some segments in the 45's intro that are not on the 4:04 version I have on "Best Disco in Town."

Yes, I realize that the version on my disco CD is not
likely the *complete* single version. However, I just
thought that if it was the right mix you were looking
for, then perhaps it might still be possible to doctor it
w/ the 4:04 version you have already, using a software
editing program??? But if the differences are mainly in
the intro (as you indicate), then I can see how the
version I have probably won't help...

Both the 12" Version (or LP Version) and 45 version appear on CD. The 45 version is on the Rebound CD called Disco Nights Volume 11: Disco's Leading Men (clocks at 3:37 and sounds exactly how I remembered) The 12" Version (or LP version) appears on the Hot Productions CD Best Of Cerrone and clocks in at 7:18.

The Disco Nights CD as far I know is still in print and is easily available (and inexpensive). The Best Of Cerrone is a little tougher to come by as it is out of print.

Hope this helps.

Fetta, thanks for the info. That will save me having to do another edit! And 80sMusicFreak, thanks for the offer! Since I'd be getting the long version from my friend, I just didn't want to trouble two people for this. But now it looks like I can get the edit on CD.

Fetta: I forgot to ask -- does the version of "Got to Have Loving" on "Disco Nights" sound like it came from master tape or vinyl? Some of these low budget labels use the vinyl, as has been pointed out on this site recently.
