Here are the edit points for creating the 45 version from the LP version.

Keep the blocks in the LP version with the following run times:

0:00-3:24
edit on downbeat ("baby")
3:32-3:44
edit on downbeat ("can't")
3:52-4:03
edit on downbeat ("go")
4:11-4:31 (to end)

The final mixdown will have edit points at 3:24, 3:36 and 3:47, with a total running time of 4:07.

I'd recommend using the original Mosaic CD as the source, and raising the level 3 dB (can do so without clipping). The mastering on Mosaic is preferable to some of the later compilations and the Greatest Hits CD, which are all overly compressed/maximized.

FYI, the version on Modern Rock 1984-1989 (2000) is digitally exactly 1.5 dB quieter than both Sounds Of The Eighties 1987 (1995) and Rock On 1987 (1996). You can null them out completely, down to dithering noise.

Hello...

I was playing around with this one, trying to get the exact edit points. I
used the LP version on "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight: Wang Chung's
Greatest Hits."

This is what I came up with:

Keep 0:00 to 3:24.009

Delete 3:24.009 to 3:32.000

Keep 3:32.000 to 3:44.845

Delete 3:44.845 to 3:52.831

Keep 3:52.831 to 4:04.394

Delete 4:04.394 to 4:12.417

Keep 4:12.417 to End

Not entirely sure about that last edit because I have it about a half second
later than what's suggested in crapfromthepast's instructions above. If
anybody is so inclined, I'd appreciate a second opinion.

Just realized I hadn't recreated the 45 version before.
Just did, using the edits listed, and I get a run time
of 4:06, yet the database says the 45 runs 4:03.

Is there an earlier fade on the 45

BTW, I used Mosaic as my source file.

When I make the edits I mentioned
to the version on "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight: Wang Chung's Greatest
Hits," my end result runs 4:03. The entire file runs 4:06 but it's got 3 seconds
of outro silence.

Ed was kind enough to send me a wav file of his 45
recreation. His file just fades 3 seconds earlier than
mine.
