The mono single version clips off the drum opening heard on the stereo version. I don't have the original album but I believe the album version starts with the drums.
I noticed this on the DJ 45 that I just picked up. The stereo version on one side of the DJ promo starts with the drum and runs 2:59. The mono side cuts off the drum and should match the 45 time already noted in the database. Both sides of the promo claim 3:02.
My stock copy also has the drums cut off the intro.

Yes I should have made that clear, my stock single is mono with the typical mono matrix.. A-23780 SP instead of ST-A-23780 SP (The DJ 45 has the ST prefix on the stereo side)

my commercial 45 issued as atlantic 2873 states a run time as 3:02 and includes the drum intro and runs 2:58 and is identical the cdr version i have.....i don't know which cd i got the version from, but since there are only 2 d/b entries which both run approximatey 2:58, it was probably one of those.....the d/b qualifiers may need to be revisited....pat, was your "lp version" qualifier based on dj 45 info and NOT commercial 45 info...my commercial 45 run out groove info is "a-23780-9.....could there be 2 pressings?

My designation of LP version comes from Bill Cahill's post above that his commercial 45 is mono and does not have the drum intro. Ed is your commercial 45 mono or stereo? I guess it is possible that there are two different pressings of this 45. Does anyone else have a commercial copy that can chime in?

My commercial 45 matches Abagon's with the same matrix run out groove, A-23780-1 1-1.
My promo contains the following run offs:
Mono is A-23780 -1
Stereo is ST-A-23780-1
