I guess this is arguably a top 40 hit, as a B-side to 2 Chicago top 10 hits, and I think a hit in its own right.
I believe it's still not out on CD, so here's how you can make the edit. My timings refer to the LP version on the "Group Portrait" box set.
The beginning and end are the same. Just make five cuts:
1 - Cut from the first downbeat at (0:00.8) to the downbeat at (0:10.8).
2 - One bar later, cut from the downbeat at (0:12.7) to the downbeat at (1:13.2).
3 - On the word "Man" cut from (1:36.1) to (3:00.6).
4 - In the drum solo, on the downbeat, cut from (3:53.6) to (5:13.1)
5 - On the word "Man" cut from (6:36.8) to (6:52.1).
The edit runs 3:28, with edit points at (0:01), (0:03), (0:25), (1:18), and (2:42).

Has the stereo edit of this cover record/b-side by
Chicago ever appeared on CD?

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but there's a Russian cover band out there doing a bang-up job on a number of Chicago classics. "I'm A Man" is in their repertoire as well. I think all of this was
sparked by the original Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine linking them on his social media page. Since then, they have toured in the USA as a solo band doing Chicago cover music.
I did manage to stop and see them in Decatur Illinois in July of 2019 and the concert was a real nice one! Since then, the band know as "Leonoid and Friends" has become a real youtube sensation.
Their version of "I'm A Man" has a few variations from the Chicago version. However, I still like it and quite a number of other songs as well.
Yeah, I guess you could say none of this reply really has much to do with the original post, but I thought its at least worth the mention if you haven't heard of them or had a chance to see any of their vids.
