The promo CD single of this states "Single Version" and is listed as 4:07. In Pat's book, the song is on Jermaine's "Say It Again" album (CD) and clocks 4:08. Either this is a case of the record label purposely trying to mislead stations to thinking the single is a special version for radio stations, or there really is a difference, like mix or edit, in which case, I'm sure, Pat, you'd want to note in your book which recording is actually on the "Say It Again" CD. So Pat (or anyone else): can you compare the 45 with the CD/LP and see if there are any differences?

I pulled out my dj 45 and the stated time is 3:59 which is wrong as it really runs 4:07. There is no mention of this being a single version on the label and when I A/B the dj vinyl 45 to the cd the only difference I hear is a drum stick tap before the song starts on the 45.

The promo CD single has the extra drum stick tap and clocks 4:07, too. This reminds me of the situation I noticed last year (prior to the 10th edition printing) where the single and album versions Ace of Base's "The Sign" and LRB's "The Other Guy" differ by an extra drum hit (AOB) or an extra base note (LRB) that precedes the rest of the song. In all 3 cases, that extra (or missing) half a second of introductory music is enough to qualify for "single versions" and "album versions", so I believe the version on the "Say It Again" album/CD should be listed as album version.

Well I don't disagree provided someone comes forward with the commercial 45 to let us know if the drum stick tap is included on the commercial copies.

For what it's worth, I have the cassette single of this fine song and it has the hi hat tap before the song starts. And it matches the version I have on the Say It Again parent album CD exactly.
