I have a promotional CD single of Times Two's "Strange But True" on Reprise PRO-CD-2940. It contains the following tracks and actual run times:

1) edit - 3:57
2) 12" vocal remix - 6:46 (label states 6:53)

Thought this info would be useful for the database.

Todd, crapfromthepast did an earlier thread for this song as well, with some details that I will again refer to here. My promo 45 has a listed (3:59), actual (3:58) "Edit" on one side. This is exactly the same version that is on my listed (3:59), actual (3:58) commercial 45. The other side of my promo 45, however, has a version that does not appear on the promo CD single. It is titled the "Edit Of Dance Mix", and has a listed time of (4:12) and an actual time of (4:13).

Could it be that this "Edit Of Dance Mix" is what's on Time-Life's Another Lost Decade - The '80s: Hard To Find Hits (2005)?

With the plethera of recent posts on the board, I thought I'd bump this thread back up to the head of the pack because crapfromthepast poses a great question here. Has anyone been able to compare the "Edit of Dance Mix" to the version on the Time-Life Another Lost Decade - The '80s: Hard to Find Hits CD to see if they might be identical?

Good news regarding Times Two's "Strange but True"... Aaron recently sent me an mp3 dub of the "Edit of Dance Mix" on Jim's promo 45 and I compared it to the version appearing on the Time-Life Another Lost Decade CD. As Ron suspected, the two are basically identical! If one wants to be technical, the CD does run slightly slower in pitch and plays out a couple of seconds longer in length than the 45 (thus accounting for the :04 run time discrepency between the two), but other than that there is no difference. So the database comment for the Another Lost Decade disc should be revised to read something like: (this is the DJ 45 "Edit of Dance Mix"). I'm assuming the other Time-Life CD listed in the database contains this DJ 45 version as well.

The database has been updated to contain the DJ single info for "Strange but True". I thought I'd also pass along that the actual commercial 45 run time is 3:58. (Timing info courtesy of abagon. The printed 45 time is 3:59 and states "Edit" on the record label.)
