The British single version of this is an edit of the LP version, but with no crowd noises over the fade-out whistling. If you're not fussy about 4 seconds of crowd sounds at the end, then here are instructions for the edit:
The LP version runs 4:23 and is readily available on lots of compilations, such as:- Living In The 90s (Razor & Tie, 1995)
- Hot No. 1 Hits! (Realm, 1992; digitally exactly 2.66 dB quieter than Living In The 90s)
- Big Hits '91 (PolyTel Canada, 1991; digitally exactly 0.3 dB louder than Living In The 90s)
- Hot Hits Vol. 5 (digitally exactly 0.88 dB quieter than Living In The 90s)
The sounds quality is essentially the same on all of the above CDs. For timing, I choose to use Living In The 90s:
Remove the "get your tickets here" talking from 0:00.0-0:13.5.
Edit at beginning of sung "Hello".
Keep 0:13.5-2:58.0 of LP version.
Edit on downbeat.
Remove 16 beats from 2:58.0-3:07.3.
Keep 3:07.3-4:25.1 (end) of LP version.
Your mixdown will run 4:00 and will have an edit at 2:44.
I found the British single version, which has no carnival sounds at all, on the following CDs, where it runs 3:57:- Now 1991 (Virgin EMI PolyGram UK, 1993)
- Now 20 (Virgin EMI Polygram UK, 1991)
Once again, jimct, do you have US promo CD single info? There was no US 45 for me to buy to figure out what the "hit" version was.
(Edit - I remember hearing a remix on the radio that used the drum line from Aerosmith's "walk This Way". Is that on the CD single as well?)

My fellow promo 45/CD collector, and dear friend for over 30 years, the very busy "Smokin' Tom Gary", downloaded his massive, master promo CD single inventory list into my laptop earlier this week. His info includes the "stock number" (as it were), # of cuts, listed time, and a brief description of the track(s) in most cases. And I can always e-mail him for specific additional details, if needed. From time to time, I will be reporting previously missing details that I believe to be of interest, as I come upon them. It will also serve as a second "promo CD single" resource, to my own large collection. I just noticed that Tom owns a 2nd promo CD single for this song (DPRO-04724). It is a 1-track CD that only includes a listed (4:03) "AC Mix". This looks to be the same version that appears on Cut 4 of the promo CD single I detailed earlier in this thread. So just in case that promo # pops up anywhere down the road for "Joyride", we now know its contents.

We also played Track 1 at our station (in fact I've only heard two stations - small market ACs in St Catherines, Ontario, ever play the LP Edit.
Two questions on this remix:
Was the drums dubbed at "Rock you like a baby" and at the end, from "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith?
Was this remix ever on a 45-rpm disc?

Apparently, there are two different AC Mixes:
DPRO-04724, remixed by Humberto Gatica (no whistling)
DPRO-04696, remixed by Brian Malouf (with whistling)
This information is from a couple of sources. (I don't have either version, but would like to.)

I just did a side-by-side comparison of the AC mixes on
both promo CD's and they are the same as far as I could
tell. The whistle difference as noted in Discogs is
definitely incorrect since the whistling is present on
both. The slightly longer running time on DPRO-04724 is
just silence at the end.

I just pulled both of my promo CDs, and that's not the case on my copies. DPRO-04724 has no whistling and instead replaces it with a synth/keyboard that mimics the whistled parts.
The matrix # of the 1-track disc is 1-1-1 CAPITOL JAX 1 C CPCP 04724 S1S19M.
By contrast, the AC Mix on the 4-track promo does have whistling at the end.

on Discogs and presume then that I was sent the AC mix on

I’m always suspicious of Discogs traders. I know several people who
have things listed in their collections, but when I’ve asked them about
the disc, they admit they only have “files given to them by someone
else.”

In the 12 years since my original post, I've never revisited "Joyride".
Almost thirty years after the song was a hit, I still can't pin down what the "hit" version was. I heard (and played) several different versions on the air back then.
I have five different versions in my library. I'm content to just label them accurately and call it good.

Yes, the Single Re-Mix (with the Aerosmith drum sample)
was the only version I heard on the radio at the time of
hit status.

I agree with Andy. I only recall hearing my local station play the Single Re-Mix. As he mentions, there is a layered drum sample of "Walk This Way" on top of the other drum machine.
The Single Edit is the same basic mix as the LP version, but the opening and closing sound effects have been removed from the mix, and part of the instrumental segment has been edited. The edit is quite obvious and is heard at 2:44 of the Single Edit.
