As I approach the bottom of the barrel relative to Top 40 songs I still need on CD, I have yet to find James Brown's "World (Part 1)" on a CD release. I'm a little disappointed to see it wasn't included on the Hip-O Select label's recently released Brown compilation The Singles - Volume 5: 1967-1969. After all, "World (Part 1)" did crack the Billboard Top 40 in September, 1969, which of course falls within the Volume 5 time frame. For anyone not familiar with Hip-O Select's James Brown Singles series, these are 2-CD sets specifically designed to chronologically reissue all of the artist's commercial single output. So was "World (Part 1)" omitted for some reason? Or can we expect the song to surface on Volume 6 upon its release sometime later this summer?

Seeing as how "Mother Popcorn" was also an earlier 1969 hit (and a big pop hit as well) and left off this set, I think it's a relatively safe assumption that Volume 6 will pick up the rest of 1969 and then delve into 1970 (and maybe some of 1971 as well).

I believe Doug to be absolutely correct here, Todd. My "Volume 5: 1967-1969" collection, with the track listings always put out in their exact chronological release order, ended around Jan/Feb 1969. They will no doubt begin "Volume 6", approximately, with the April 1969 45 release of "I Don't Want Nobody To Give Me Nothing". In the first 5 volumes, the A & B sides of ALL of his 48 BB Hot 100 entries, ALL "Bubbling Under" entries, ALL of his Christmas 45 releases, ALL of his few non-charting 45 releases have been included, without exception. Even some "James Brown-related" 45 releases appear here, such as some singles issued by "The Dapps", some white guys from Cincinnati who Brown would, on occasion, utilize as his backup band during the late 60's, when looking to "change up" from the trademark "more heavy funk groove" provided by his legendary Famous Flames. So, take it to the bank, Todd, "World (Part I)" will absolutely be appearing on Volume 6.
