If my research is correct, the Freddie and the Dreamers Best of CD on EMI 96979 was issued as part of EMI's Legends of Rock & Roll series and it contains 25 tracks. Now, can anyone tell me if the Freddie and the Dreamers Very Best of CD on Collectables 2727 is an exact reissue of the Best of disc, except for the packaging? I would especially like to know if the sound quality is identical on both CDs. I greatly appreciate anyone who can help answer this. Thanks!

Todd, my experience has been just about 100% conclusive that the Collectables reissues of those original EMI Legendary Masters Series/Legends Of Rock & Roll CDs are exact clones, in every way, from the originals, except that obviously the "Collectables" logo/catalog # replaces the original EMI info on the insert. The face of the discs themselves has the track info often re-typed, providing more of a "standard" Collectables look, however. The ONE exception I have noted to this statement is on the Bobby Goldsboro CD, "Honey-The Best Of." "Voodoo Woman" appeared in an alternate take, in error I believe, on the original EMI release. (I wouldn't be surprised if later EMI pressings of this CD had initially corrected this error, because the Collectables release DOES include the correct version. I bought this Goldsboro CD on Collectables, even though I already had the EMI CD, just for this ONE correction, which is/was thankfully noted in Pat's database. I think this because Collectables has never really struck me to be very "detail oriented" with their disc prep.) Would Collectables, on their own, have gone to all the extra expense/time/trouble here, just to fix this ONE song? My gut says no, fueling my feeling that they, instead cloned a "corrected" EMI pressing - perhaps someone can confirm/deny this thoery at some point. But if Collectables did happen to go to the extra bother, in this one case, I certainly tip my hat to them, and issue major kudos to them!)

This has also been my experience with the Collectables reissues of the EMI Legendary Masters/Rock & Roll CDs as well, but I thought I'd try to get 100% confirmation in the case with Freddie and the Dreamers. I appreciate your response, Jim.
