In the 10th edition of T40MOCD, all CD appearances of Romeo Void's "A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing)" run from 4:14-4:17 (except on discs containing the 12" single version). However, Joel Whitburn lists the single run time at 3:48. Does anyone have a commercial 45 copy who can verify if and how the single differs from the LP version/length?

The dj 45 states a time of 3:48 and actually runs 3:49 and is an early fade of the LP.

My commercial 45 (Columbia 38-04534) version of this matches the
dj 45; 3:49 time and an early fade of the LP

A good approximation of the fade is a 24-beat sinusoidal fade from the downbeat at 3:38 to the downbeat at 3:49.
I used Sedated In The Eighties Vol. 2 (1994) as the source for the LP version. The version on Time-Life's 2-CD Modern Rock Vol. 3 1984-1985 (1999) is a differently EQ'd digital clone of Sedated. The LP version is also on Realm's 3-CD Realm Greatest Hits Of The '80s Vol. 1 (1995), which sounds fine but is too loud in first 20 seconds and clips a bit, and on Priority's Rock Of The '80s Vol. 7 (1993), which has a good EQ but a little added compression.
Overall, I think it's an odd-sounding mix that probably won't sound terrific anywhere.

db currently states:
(S) (3:49) Sony BMG Music Entertainment Custom Marketing Group 688139 Never Say Never: Hits, Rarities & Gems (45 length)
Attn: Pat. I wasn't familiar w/ the above collection from 2006, but after seeing it listed in the db, it intrigued me, so I went over to Discogs for more info. Upon finding the CD listed & pictured there, I noticed that in addition to the 45 length of "A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing)" (track 2) - as you've reported - it also includes the "(Dance Mix)" of this song (track 9), which is NOT currently shown in the db. Printed time for the "Dance Mix" is "6:12", which seems to match up w/ three other CDs you already have in the db running (6:11), and you've labeled as the "(12" single version)"...
