I have the commercial CD single for this and the "radio edit" is not the hit version I heard on the radio back in 1991. I see a 12" on ebay with the "radio mix." Is this the hit version and does anyone have any info on the promo cd single?

Chendagam, I will pull my promo CD single for you when I get back home tonight, and will report back my findings the next time I am online.

A classic hip hop track! I'd better jump in on this one. To my knowledge, there was only one promo CD single for this track. It's a 1-track promo CD (Giant 4853) containing the "Censored Radio Edit." Although it doesn't say "remix," the version on the promo CD is the same remix that's on the commercial CD single.

I agree with you 100% that this is not the most commonly heard "hit" version. The mix I would consider to be the "hit" is called the "Master Radio Version." It has the same backing track as the album version but with clean lyrics. The video uses this version, although it edits about 40 seconds off the ending. I've never seen the video edit show up anywhere, but I know the full "Master Radio Version" was available on cassette single. I'm not sure if there was more than one cassette single (i.e. a Wal-Mart version and a regular one).

I've only found the "Master Radio Version" on two different CDs: the clean version of the New Jack City soundtrack and the import CD single. I'm not sure how hard to find those discs are today, but I had one heck of a time finding the edited soundtrack a few years ago.
