Was wondering if any of the experts here know the correct airplay hit version (LP Version, Edit or United Nations 7" seem the likely contenders).
I was also curious if anyone had an mp3 of the Edit version (4:19), it would be a HUGE help to me.
Thanks!

Thank you so much, Ed! You're always so helpful! :)
Would we consider this edit the "hit" (though not a proper top 40 entry), or have I missed a cassette single/7" release?

There was no commercial release in the US.

I know not initially, I was curious if it was ever on a later A&M reissue 7".

Ed:
I was living overseas at the time "State of the World" was a hit, but I don't recall exactly which version the Armed Forces Network played. Usually, AFN played short radio edits because they would try to cram in lots of news, information, and other programming segments (i.e. - Paul Harvey news, the Charles Osgood Files, etc.) to appeal to a wide captive audience.

Ed, in 1991, I was Program Director of a local Music of Your Life affiliate and was not familiar with what our former Top 40/by 1991, Hot A/C counterpart down the hall was playing.

Regarding Janet Jackson's "State of the World", the database currently displays an "LP version" comment next to the lone CD entry. However, given that a commercial single was never issued for this song, an "LP version" comment probably doesn't apply here since there is no 45 version counterpart.

According to the latest edition of Joel Whitburn's "Top Pop Singles", State Of The World was issued as a 45 so perhaps we could ask Paul Haney to contribute what information he has regarding this issue.

Not positive, but I'm pretty sure that's a reissue on the Collectibles label, with "Miss You Much" as the flip.

Yep, that's the one (A&M/Collectibles 8694). It can be viewed here:

But this wasn't an official commercial single release during the song's airplay run in 1991, right? If it was, then "State of the World" would've been eligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 (which it wasn't).

Anyone know the edit points to create the edit version of it?
