Can anyone indicate where the fade begins to match the 45 at 2:41? I've read that it's a rather fast fade.

John, I thought I might be able to answer your question by using the colored vinyl reissue in the Specialty Collectors' Series Larry Williams boxed set of six 45s, distributed by Collectables in 1984. But the set's "Bonie Moronie" 45 runs the full 3:08.

Oh, well... it's still pretty to look at :)

Yes, John, it is a prrty vinyl.

Could there be a possibility that, even though the label says 2:41, it actually runs 3:08?

Anyone?

I should say for any vinyl copies of Bony Moronie.

My original pressing is labeled 2:40, and runs 2:41. Actually, this is for the G- copy i was able to find filed away in my collection. I do have a 2nd VG+ copy of an original pressing (though maybe a 2nd 1950's pressing), but it's misfiled in one of 20 different boxes right now and i have no idea which one it would be in...

I tried to make a 45 edit using the version on Time Life's Rock And Roll Era 1957 - Still Rockin', but there were too many speed issues between the 45 and the Time Life versions....at some points the 45 ran faster, at some points the 45 ran slower.....and the fade out is pretty tough to get.... but it's not a quick fade, it's a long drawn out one that has the volume dropping suddenly once and then it looks like a gradual fade from there but i'm not entirely sure....it would be easier to tell if i had my VG+ copy handy.

Tom:

Thanks for the useful info. Should I then look for a 45 with a listed 2:40 run time?

Yes and my copy has a solid black bar in the middle of the label (like the red vinyl picture above), while 2nd pressings from the 50's had a yellow or white bar going through the middle of the black bar. Also, later pressings are probably on more flexible vinyl than original pressings.

my commercial 45 issued as specialty 615 states the run
time on the label as 2:40 and does run that length.....if
you fade for 0:09 from 2:31 to 2:40 you'll effectively re-
create the vinyl 45 version....john...i'm sending you a
copy of my fade now....
