Can the missing :24 seconds of the 45 version of this song be taken from the LP version? If so, where?

I don't know this for a fact, but I do believe the actual 45 is just a fade of the longer LP version (there were two LP versions--one longer and one shorter).

I don't have the 6:30-ish (long) version of this on an album, so someone who does may need to double check this. (I only have the truncated version on my 12 Greatest Hits Vol. II CD.) However, I do have an .mp3 that runs 6:30 and I'm assuming (ugh) that's the one from the Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack. With that caveat...
I think you can get very close but no cigar by just fading out the long version to make the 45 edit. The final orchestral chord, which is a resolution, is missing extra instrumentation on the 45 that returns the song to a passage with rhythm on the long LP version. The resolution chord is just held and fades on the 45, whereas the LP version adds bass, guitar and eventually piano (and then a trumpet and cellos and for all I know screaming seagulls because by this time I "Be" turning this rather lengthy song off) back into the mix on top of that "last" 45 chord. So it can't "Be" done.
Incidentally, the timing listed on the 45 is cute -- no doubt for the benefit of easily misled program directors. Instead of a time, Columbia put this:
Intro. :24
Vocal 3:28
Instrumental ending: 1:37
That adds up to 5:29. My 45 is more like 5:30.
