...also known as "After The Love Is Gone", including the Eternal Dance 3-CD set, although I've mostly seen "... Has Gone" over the years...

The 45 version is a simple edit of the LP version. I have the LP version on:
  • The Eternal Dance (3-CD set, Columbia/Legacy C3K 52439, 1992; sound overall pretty good on this set, but on this track, the left channel clips at -6 dB)
  • Seems Like Yesterday Vol. 3 - Late '70s (K-Tel 502-2/A 21483, 1990; sound a bit muffled)
Although the 45 edit is readily found on at least four Time-Life collections, I thought I'd provide instructions on recreating the edit, based on timings from The Eternal Dance:

Keep 0:00.0-3:26.5 of the LP version.
Edit on the first of the three rising "Oh's", at 3:26.5.
Remove the 16 beats from 3:26.5-3:42.0.
Keep the 32 beats from 3:42.0-4:10.3.
Put a 16-beat fade from 3:56.2 (on the first of the three rising "Oh's") to 4:10.3.

Your mixdown will run 3:55, with one edit at 3:26.5, and a 16-beat fade from 3:40 to 3:55.

There are also CDs with an early fade, running 3:24. This 3:24 version never existed back in 1979 and was created for the dreaded Heart Rock 2-CD set (Time-Life, 1988), which has lots of early fades. It also shows up on the Feel The Love 3-CD set (Music By Mail/Sony Special Products, 1994).
