Hadn't seen any postings about this, so I might as well ask. Much of Bob Seger's catalogue is only available in their LP versions (including cases where the 45 and LP are identical). As far as I know, only "Night Moves" was issued on CD in its 45 mix/edit (on the FM soundtrack).

I was able to create an edit of "We've Got Tonight," but I'm not sure if I nailed it (I know what the time should be, but I'm not totally sure where the edit exactly comes in). And I'm not sure if I've ever heard the 45 of "You'll Accomp'ny Me." I'm pretty sure that you can't quite edit "Against The Wind" from the LP to get the 45 (I think there's one either overdub or extra note right at the first edit, although you can make the edits at the end pretty easily).

Anyone able to fill in the blanks?

The edit for "We've Got Tonite" (which is the original spelling on the
45), it occurs at approximately the 3:06.5 mark, on the beat between
the penultimate and last lines. From there, edit out everything until
the last :28.
The edit for "You'll Accomp'ny Me" occurs about two-thirds of the
way through. At the part of the LP version where the chorus is
repeated three times before the final vamp-out, edit out the second
chorus where Bob sings "Out where the river meets the sounding
sea."
You're right about "Against The Wind" not being simply edited to get
the 45 version. On the 45 version, the instrumental break is edited
out, but on the LP version, the last note of the guitar overlaps the
beginning of Bob's singing. That note is not on the 45.

Also, check the posting for "American Storm" in single edits vs. single mixes

Question about the dj45 of "Even Now" -- was it edited or simply faded earlier?

OK, quick question. Does the line "someday, lady, you'll accomp'ny me, you will accompany me" remain on the single version, or is that edited out? I created an edit that keeps most of that first chorus, then jumps to that line before it goes to the final minute-long vamp out. (That chorus is only sung twice, which threw me for a moment.)

OK, slow response. Yes, that line remains, and should appear
approximately at the 2:28 mark.

Just noticed that "Rock And Roll Never Forgets" is listed as LP Length. Does anyone have the proper beginning/ending fade points for the 45 length?

Here's another one about a lesser Seger hit--any way to replicate the 45 of "Katmandu" from the LP (I see a listed time on e-Bay of (3:12) for a 45, while the LP version runs (6:09))?

To 'sriv94':

Yes, I have edited the CD to create the 45 version (but with a slightly longer & less abrupt fade).

There are quite a few edits; PM me if you would like to hear it.

Is the short DJ edit of "Like A Rock" just an early fade?

No, there is an out-of-sequence edit on the promo version for "Like A Rock." It's right near the end before the DJ 45 fades; they took a very short (but famous) section of the song and spliced it into an earlier part. It's the ad lib "ooooohhhh like a rock" that was heard in the Chevy truck commercial. If they had just done an early fade, that part would not have appeared on the DJ 45.

At about 4:10, the DJ version goes like this:

Carrying the weight
Like a rock
Oooooohhhhh like a rock
Oh, like a rock
The sun upon my skin

It's not a terribly difficult edit to do, but it's hard to do without hearing an actual copy of it.

There is a version of "Katmandu" that runs just less than five minutes on the new Bob Seger Ultimate Hits 2-disc set. This one sounds like neither the LP or 45 version. Another missed opportunity to just include the 45 edit (like they did for "We've Got Tonite").

I'm not so sure they got the edit right. For one thing, the 45 is slower than the LP--this edit seems to match the LP pitch. For another thing, it doesn't sound like the edit's in the right spot.

As an aside, Pat's database shows the Ultimate Hits CD has the LP version. Unless there are multiple pressings, it doesn't. But it doesn't mean it has the 45 either.

A little bit of both. There's an edit in the intro (might be others, but I know of that one for sure) and it's faded earlier.

So looks like it might be a neither LP or 45 version. "We've Got Tonite" runs (3:36) on my copy of Ultimate Hits. So sounds like they edited both this song and "Katmandu" but neither is the 45 version. Can you confirm for us Pat. Thank you.

Pat now has "We've Got Tonite" listed as the 45 version on Ultimate Hits, but I remain unconvinced. It sounds to me like the edit is made on the word "stay" at (3:13), while based on Paul was saying above the edit should come in at (3:07).

And I'm almost positive the 45 was pitched down a bit, although it still runs (3:36). That would mean the fade on Ultimate Hits was extended about 2-3 seconds.

On my commercial 45, the word "stay" occurs at 3:13 and on the Ultimate Hits it also occurs at 3:13. Yes the 45 was pitched slightly slower than the LP for some reason and yes the appearance on the Ultimate Hits is the LP pitch but as far as I can tell it is the 45 edit of "We've Got Tonight".

Hi Pat. The word "stay" should be at (3:13)--it is on the LP version as well. However, I'm pretty sure Paul's right when he says the actual edit on the 45 occurs at the (3:07) mark (roughly). On the 45, there appear to be strings more at the forefront at (3:07) whereas on the Ultimate Hits version they're not there.

If you can take another listen I'd appreciate it.

The strings are present on both the 45 and the Ultimate Hits cd and yes they are mixed louder on the 45 but they are still audible on the Ultimate Hits so you can call this a remixed 45 version if you wish. If you want me to send you an mp3 of the vinyl 45 I would be happy to do so.
