Does anyone know if the "Radio Edit" of 4:42, simply removes the intro from the LP version?

That sounds correct to me. I always remember playing the version that starts cold with the vocal, but I don't think there were any other edits within the song.

Correct on that one.
Two cuts were on the promo CD one with the cold open or the long album version.
I think everyone went with the cold open.

I happen to be in my 1996 promo CD singles, remembered this question a while back, and thought I'd provide both my promo & commercial CD single info for this song:
-R. Kelly-"I Believe I Can Fly" (promo JDJ-42422-2)
1-Radio Version (listed 5:05; actual 5:20)
2-No Intro (listed 4:30; actual 4:42) (FYI, we played this track on-air back in 1996)
-R. Kelly-"I Believe I Can Fly" (stock 01241-42427-2)
1-LP Version (listed & actual 5:20, and sounds to me exactly like the "Radio Version" track from my above-mentioned promo CD single)
2-Radio Edit (listed & actual 4:42, and sounds to me exactly like the "No Intro" track from my above-mentioned promo CD single)
3-Instrumental (listed & actual 5:20)
(FYI, cuts 4 & 5 on this disc are different tracks)

The 'stock' CD to which Jim referred above is the
commercial 'maxi' CD-single. The standard two-track
commercial CD-single (01241-42422-2), the cassette single,
and the 7-inch single all have only the 'radio edit'.
