Jim tells me his commercial 45 copy of Foreigner's "Double Vision" has an actual and printed run time of 3:29. I only mention this because database CDs containing the 45 version of this song run 3:28-3:34.

The LP version runs about 3:42.
I prefer the version on Atlantic's Very Best Of And Beyond (1992), which sounds very nice. There's a digitally identical clone on JCI's Only Rock 'N Roll 1975-1979 (1994).
The version on Sessions/Warner Special Products' 2-CD Night Beat (1988) has a very bass-shy EQ.
The 45 edit runs 3:29.
The first version of the 45 edit appeared on Atlantic's Records (copyright 1982). The original pressing of Records sounds like it's from a relatively high-generation tape source. There's a remaster of Records, with an "RE-1" in the matrix number. The RE-1 remaster sounds like it's from better source tapes, but is mastered a bit loud.
Both Records masterings show a slight editing error at 1:17, which has a click in the left channel at an edit. A close inspection of the waveform shows that the left and right channels aren't edited at the same time. If I didn't point it out, you probably wouldn't notice.
There's a different analog transfer on Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 10 1978 (1990), which (to my ears) sounds a little better than Records. The same analog transfer is used for Time-Life's Guitar Rock Vol. 2 1978-1979 (1993). Both have the click at 1:17.
The version on Mystic Music/Warner Special Products' 2-CD Good Times (1991) has its left/right channels reversed, and has the click at 1:17. Avoid.
The version on Atlantic/Rhino's Complete Greatest Hits (2002) is mastered really loud, but fixes the click at 1:17.
And now, I provide entirely useless editing instructions for recreating the widely-available 45 version from the LP version, using the timings from Very Best Of And Beyond:
Segment 1
Extends from 0:00.0 to 1:17.4 of both the LP version and 45 edit
Ends on a snare
Remove the 16 beats from 1:17.4 to 1:24.7 of the LP version
Segment 2
Begins on a snare
Extends from 1:24.7 to 3:37.3 of the LP version
Extends from 1:17.4 to 3:29.9 of the 45 edit
Ends on a downbeat
Fade
24 beats long
Extends from 3:26.3 to 3:37.3 of the LP version
Extends from 3:18.9 to 3:29.9 of the 45 edit
Your mixdown will run 3:29.9, with one edit at 1:17.4 and a 24-beat-long fade starting at 3:18.9.

Just compared my copy from Records to a
downloaded copy from Complete Greatest Hits. The
rather long, drawn out fade on Complete Greatest
Hits starts at 3:04, while the fade on
Records matches Ron's instructions above.

Sounds like Atlantic/Rhino recreated the 45 edit for Complete Greatest Hits.
Does anyone know if the left channel click at 1:17 is on the original 45? I don't have a needledrop to compare.

HitsTownUSA has a promo 45 posted on YouTube and it
sounds like the promo 45 has the click at the edit
point.

I stand corrected. I went back and don't think it's
there on the promo 45.
Anyone else?
