Will buy anything Sly.

Does anyone know the difference between the "Family Affair" single & the LP version?

I presume "Everyday People" is the mono single mix.

I don't know of any difference on Family Affair. Sony also tends to put "single version" notations on things that are not the single version.

On what Sly songs was there a different mix on the single? Also, wasn't the single of "I Want To Take You Higher" considerably shorter than 5:23? (not sure I have the 45, but don't recall the promo being that long).

The single version of "Sing A Simple Song" was around 3 minutes. A bit shorter than the album version.

The printed time on my commercial 45 is 2:55.

Pretty sure that's the actual time, too (give or take a couple of seconds), but it's just a very early fade of the LP version.

The single version notations on this set are nonsense. The samples are up on Amazon, and they're all stereo. The single versions were mono:

Would Amazon post samples from the forthcoming Playlist release, or would they utilize existing audio samples they would have had from other collections?

They would post samples from the forthcoming release. I've never run across sample that did not match what was on the album, except where they were folded to mono to save space on the website.

I checked my copy, which is a back-to-back hits single and it too is 2:55. Epic was not always consistent with using the 45 version on it's reissue singles. "Hold Your Head Up" by Argent immediately comes to mind.

That's disappointing. Even though the mono single mixes for most of Sly & the Family Stone's Top 40 hits have surfaced on other CDs, it would sure be nice to have them all compiled on one disc!

The song Smilin' (track 9 above) is in the database, however the Playlist disc (Epic/Legacy 752788) is not currently listed under that song (four other discs are listed at this time). The same song also appears on the 2-disc Essential set (Epic/Legacy 86867) and is also not one of the four discs listed.
