Just noticed that on my 45 there's a line at the 3:00 mark, "...you oughta" that's missing in some or all of the CD 45 versions listed in the DB. The three I checked all were missing this line.
RHINO: BB Top R&B Hits 1972;
T-L: Sounds Of The 70's-1972;
JCI: Only Soul 1970-1974.
Those are the only ones I've had time to check. Is anyone able to check some of the others to see if the correct 45 version appears on any of them? And is that enough of a difference to warrant a neither/nor designation?

It's on the "E" 45 version that's on Reader's Digest "20 Years of #1 Hits." (Pat has it listed as "M," but it's definitely "E." I've been trying to turn it into good-sounding mono, but without complete success so far.)

The line in question appears in the LP version; it was not difficult at all to create the 45 stereo edit. The song is already fading at that point. Unless I missed something.

This is odd. I have "Top Of The Stax," which (seemingly) has the LP version, and I don't hear that line at all when I listen.

Doug, I just checked my copy of "Top of the Stax" and it's there. To create the 45, just take the section from appx 3:41 - 3:42.25 and replace the same line in the 45 version (from appx 2:59.6 - 3:00.75). You'll have to adjust for the 45 fade, but unless I'm missing something, you should have the 45 version in stereo.

Well, sort of. The edit's not 100% perfect, but with the fadeout it's very hard to tell.

I own several different NM Stax 45 singles. One styrene, several vinyl pressings. The Styrene copy is Monarch made. There are no unique differences in mixing so this can indeed be re-created from the LP version.

Yes, it's an easy one to fix. Basically, they just put the edit in the wrong place. It needs to come before the "you oughta" ad lib, but the CDs I have it on put the edit afterward.

Bumping this thread up for Ringmaster D. I have done even an earlier post
for this song, but it only mentioned a listed 45 time of (3:19); actual (3:16).
All the earlier posts on here have all the correct edit details for you.

Bumping this up after Ron's excellent analysis in the latest thread.

This thread didn't turn up when I searched, so I started a new thread here.

Ha! There are actually four different threads discussing the song. I only
bumped the one with the most posts.
