anyone know where i can find the 45 version of the song "rock me amadeus" by falco......the problem is.....the 45 version is slightly sped up from the cd version......the 45 runs 3:10 in length while the cd version runs 3:23......the 45 face states that the version is "the american edit"......i've listened to the two side by side (cd vrs 45) and the versions are identical EXCEPT that the 45 is sped up and compressed to make the run time 3:10....does any music editing program compress songs to certain lengths????......ANY info would be welcomed.......

edtop40 brings up an interesting observation about "Rock Me Amadeus". Pat cites 13 CD appearances of "Amadeus" in his book with the accompanying comment:(American 45 version). However, upon closer look, it appears that 12 of those CDs contain the considerably slowed down version with the run time ranging from 3:18 to 3:20. The only U.S. CD release I'm aware of known to contain "Amadeus" at the correct speed is an out-of-print K-Tel compilation called The 80's Pop Explosion (K-Tel 3342). On this disc, the run time clocks in at 3:11.
By the way, I was listening to my CD copy of Falco's Greatest Hits (Buddha 99653) and it doesn't sound to me like "Amadeus" is even the American 45 version on this disc, although it is listed as being so in the book. The intro is completely different and doesn't contain the female "Ooo, rock me, Amadeus" open or the "ROCK ME AMADEUS, RA-RA-ROCK ME, AMADEUS... AMADEUS... AMADEUS... AMADEUS... AMADEUS..." echo loop that immediately follows.

Sure, Ed, lots of software will enable you to speed up/slow down a song. I use something called Magix Audio Cleaning Lab that I got for only $9.95 on clearance at Best Buy. (Magix is still around -- my old version, 1.03, is what was on clearance.)
You can edit tracks, speed up, slow down, play two tracks simultaneously (which is how I made my Prince "Let's Go Crazy" single version), etc. You can adjust the speed and pitch at the same time, change the speed without altering the pitch, or alter the pitch without changing the speed. (Try it on a Chipmunks song, and hear David Seville's clearly recognizable voice.) It also has various types of noise reduction.
Magix still has its own web site with all their products listed.

This discussion has forced me to go back and evaluate my comments that appear in the 10th edition regarding "Rock Me Amadeus" and here is what I have come up with. The true 45 American version, at the correct speed is on K-Tel 3342 "The 80's Pop Explosion". The true "Canadian" side of the 45 appears on UTV Records 312451344 "More Pure 80's". A number of cd's are listed as the "American" 45 version in the 10th edition of Top 40 Music On Compact Disc and should really read (neither the 45 or LP version) - those cd's are Compass Productions 973070901, Buddah 99612, Buddah 99653, Time-Life R828-21, Time-Life R828-09 and Medalist Entertainment 30967. All other listings for the "American" 45 version, really are the "American" 45 version but they are way too slow.

Just curious... Could the fairly common 3:19-3:20 "neither the 45 nor LP version" CD appearances of Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" actually be a U.K. or European 45 version?
