My old top 40 station always played the "Radio Edit" of "The Way" by Fastball. I don't have the promo CD single, but I have it on a Promo Only disc, and it runs 4:08. The only edit is on the intro, which cuts the piano section in half before the first verse.

My promo single has one track listed as being "radio edit" with a listed time of 4:08, and an album version with listed time of 4:16.
We played the 4:08 version, but cued past some of the chatter at the beginning.

My promo CD single info also matches up with Steve's fndings above. Just thought I'd add that the "Radio Edit" (4:08) and the "Album Version" (4:16) are both the listed & actual times for the tracks, and, for anyone looking for a copy, the promo CD "stock #" for it is "PRCD-10797-2". And we also cued past the opening chatter at our station back in 1998.

Aaron, I cut the piano in half, but my edit came out to
4:12. Is the radio edit possibly sped up or the chatter
shortened/edited. I used the album version and removed
all silence at the beginning.

Good catch. There are actually two edits on the intro, including one before the piano comes in. Just before the fourth beat, you'll need to edit out four beats. In other words, the snippet of Jewel ("Foolish Games"?) should start on the 4th beat of the intro drums and not the 8th. There is a video on YouTube that has the radio edit (look for "good quality with lyrics").

Thanks! I thought I was going crazy and giving myself an
F- for editing and/or hearing!

Nope, I'm the one who gets the F- for a misleading post!

There is another promo CD PRCD-10824-2 with 3 versions of "Fire Escape" and the Unpaved version of "The Way". Listed time is 3:43; actual time is 3:41.
