The database indicates that all CD versions of this song are "LP speed." What is the 45 speed, compared to the LP speed? I'm recording my own ELO compilation today and I want to go with the 45 speed. If anyone can tell me how much faster to make it (or the exact time of the 45), that would greatly help.

I think it was covered in an earlier thread that the 45 runs (3:40).

Although don't let that stop you from getting a copy of the 45 from Ed. :-)

If the 45 runs 3:40 and the LP 3:47, then by simply pitching the LP version up by 50 Cents (which I guess is half a semi-tone), it will end up 3:40. However, in doing this, it sounds faster than I ever remember it being on the radio. It's also quite possible that the 45 was sped up AND faded a few seconds early -- which wouldn't sound as fast as my attempted pitch correction but would still clock in at 3:40. Anyway, Ed, if you can send that mp3, that would solve the mystery. Thanks.

What about the flip side, Fire On High? I hear there is no CD version of that
one. Is it possible to edit one from the LP version? I think the version on the
CD Burning Bright is also the LP version.

Remember, times can be misleading. The best thing to do is A/B the 45 and LP versons.

I just compared the stereo promo 45 with the LP speed version on CD. I don't detect any mix differences between the two--just speed differences. To get the proper speed, I increased the pitch of "Strange Magic" by 2.3%. I suppose if you're used to hearing the 45, it sounds like somone put a brick on the turntable when playing the LP version.
