My 1996 copy of Pat's book lists 6 CDs with the LP version and none with the 45 version. The 45 is a different mix and can't be recreated from the LP version.
The 45 versions run about 3:39 and the LP versions run about 4:24.
To hear the mix differences, listen for the 2-note acoustic guitar part that's four beats into the song. If there's a very faint answering chord, it's the LP mix. If there's a very strong answering chord, it's the 45 mix.
The LP version is readily available. I like the version on Cosmopolitan Vol. 4, but Her Greatest Hits sounds nice as well.
I have the 45 version on the promo-only 4-CD set MCA Hits Sampler (1988), and on the UK 2-CD Now That's What I Call Music 12 (1988), and both sound quite nice. It's also on The A List Disc 45 (1994), but I think there may be noise reduction applied to it (bad). And it's also on the UK 2-CD Now The Millennium Series 1988 (1999), where it has a little compression/limiting applied to it (bad).

Thanks for the great info, as always. I think I've seen the single mix on a TM Century GoldDisc too. I think it was one of the update discs, but I forget which one.

I've seen the 45 mix on the import Place On Earth: Greatest Hits.

Another way to tell one mix from the other: the 45 version
has sea wave sounds right before the final chorus kicks in.
That effect is absent on the album version.

The recent Icon CD release for Belinda includes the 45
version of this song (first time on a domestic release).

Does anyone own the US promo 45 for "Circle in the Sand"? I'd like to know if it gives a name to the 45 version. (For example, "I Get Weak" is referred to as "Short Version" on the promo.) But I can't find an image of the white label US promo online anywhere.

Brian, both sides of my 1988 promo 45 include the same, listed time (3:40),
non-described version on it.

Thanks, Jim. The single mix is called the 7" Version on the original 12-inch UK and German imports, so I guess that's what I'll call it.

This 45 version is on her recent Icon CD. Too bad the
mastering is hot.
