There's no mention in the database yet; however, Cypress Hill just put out a Greatest Hits CD (Columbia 97789-edited version), which has their one and only top 40 hit "Insane In The Brain." I picked up a copy of the edited version of the CD, and the "Radio Edit" is faded out to the (3:27) mark instead of ending cold at (3:33).
The time listed on allmusic.com for the explicit cd is (3:33), so I'm guessing they didn't fade it out on this disc. I don't know if there was a commercial CD single issued in the US, but the cassette maxi uses the explicit LP version as the lead track.
(As a non-top-40-note, the song "How I Could Just Kill A Man," which was a major hit on the rap chart, is issued for the first time on CD in its "Radio Version" with alternate lyrics. Interestingly, the track "Hand On The Pump" was issued in a "Radio Edit" on the commercial CD single, but they chose to issue this one in an alternate take on the clean version of Greatest Hits. I have never heard this "clean" version anywhere else, and it doesn't remove the "n" word on the chorus.)

the cassingle version issued on ruffhouse 77135 runs 3:33 and is NOT faded out.........the song ends at about the 3:28 and then has the vocals "i think i'm going crazy" added on at the end.........so it looks like the version you have just snipped the ending vocals off.......

Ah, so perhaps the "Radio Edit" should be considered the 45 version. There's not much difference between the "Radio Edit" and LP version, except there's a few words that are censored, and the sample at the end that says "I think I'm going crazy" is much louder on the "Radio Edit."

my cassingle issued as ruffhouse 77135 contains, on the A-side, the "radio edit" which runs 3:31.....it contains the intro words "who you tryin' to get crazy with us see, don't you know i'm loco, loco, loco?"...........as well as the outro vocals....."i think i'm going crazy"....it is an edited version, as would be expected with a radio edit.....this should be noted in the db

I heard a version of "hand on the pump" on the radio back in 1991 that was censored totally different. They took the "n" word out but very creatively. I think I may have it on tape...I'll dig.

It was released on the commercial CD single if you're interested in finding it. The second verse is different, too. The chorus said "the sucker didn't jump."

Ed, I own the last CD on the list above, and as I stated earlier in this thread, it is an early fade of the Radio Edit. If I had to guess, I'd say that all of the 3:26/3:27 versions are early fades; however, only one of the CDs has that comment.
What's interesting is that the original censored Black Sunday album has song faded early. This is probably the same one they used on the censored Greatest Hits. I wonder if it was some kind of licensing issue with the sample used on the end that caused them to fade it out on some releases.

Going back to "pump" I have the comm CD single with the "official clean" ver. Back in 1991 on the radio there was a really cool censored version that muted the "n" word. I'm sure it was a dj cutting it up on the tables.

Hey John, I have both the commercial and promo CD singles for "Hand On The Pump." The 1-track promo lists "Radio Edit," but it's still sealed. I would presume it's the same version as "Radio Edit" on the commercial maxi CD. If you think it might be a different version, I can break open the seal and check.

No I highly doubt it is different. I think the DJ's just used some fancy hand to mixer techniques to make it sound cool. From memory they scratched over the choice words and muted the "n" word with a na na na effect. There may be a promo 12" out there with an earlier version but I doubt it found it's way to CD but who knows. Let me try to dig up my tape...I think I know where it is before you go breaking the seal.
I know this was the case with Will Smith's "Gettin Giggy..." The promo 12" is slightly different at the "Mama-unh mama-unh ima come closer" lyric.

I just received a used copy of the explicit Black Sunday CD, and this
also has the song "Insane In The Brain" faded at the end. Perhaps only
very early pressings had the full version. The matrix on my copy is
DIDP-079724 17.

Not sure where I got it from, when I've dealt with 10's of
thousands of files over the years, but mine is censored
from an Insane In The Brain (EP) with the going crazy
vocal at the end.
Could it have been a licensing issue with the tacked on
vocal? What's it's original source?

I believe all singles contain the unfaded ending with the Youngbloods "All Over The World" sample at the end. The single was released in advance of the album by about a month. My old cassette copy of the explicit Black Sunday also had the full, unfaded ending, and Pat's CD contains the full ending, too, as is indicated in the database.
My guess, like you suspected, John, is that the sample was not and could not be cleared. Ruffhouse must've then quickly re-pressed the album with a quick fade at the end of "Insane."

The "going crazy" ending is a sample of "All Over The World (La-La)" by The Youngbloods.
