The self titled LP's actual running time is (3:57) with the listed time "4:00" on the record label.(Capitol ST-12400) Therefore, the 45 length is (3:50), the LP length is (3:57). This comment is very useful for database users. Because there are CD entries of various lengths in the db.

And it's also a re-recording or remix as was the USA LP. The original recording was released on Attic in Canada and was a college radio favorite. It does not have the horn section and a much more rhythmic sound to it.

The extended mix (labeled time 5:37) will make its CD debut when So8oS vol 8 is released.

It's a series dedicated to 80's music. Various artists and single artist comps.
Go to Amazon and enter So80s. Some cool stuff.

Indy:
Could you be so kind as to comment on the quality of these So80s import CDs? Do the recordings sound like they came from tape sources or from vinyl dubs? And how would you describe the audio mastering in general?

I've noticed on discogs.com and amazon that these 3 CD sets of so8os often have 19 tracks (or so) on disc 1 alone. Generally, there's no way to fit 19 12" mixes on one CD of 80 minutes. 19 songs generally takes up a whole disc if they're regular single length songs. CDs with 12" mixes usually can fit a total of about 11 songs in their 80 minutes. So these CD boxed sets seem somewhat questionable. I, too, would like to know the quality (if they're from master tapes or vinyl) and if they often use the non-12" mixes.

I only have one volume and though I haven't put it on my hard drive to look for brick walling it sounds fine to me. Certainly no vinyl on the volume I have.
Vol 8 and the other various artists CDs in the series have 3 CDs. Two with songs in their original form and one CD mixed by Blank & Jones which I don't care for.

I just discovered a significant edit of the LP / single version running only 2:48 on Now That's What I Call Music 1985 (UK release).
You can see this CD here: https://www.discogs.com/master/1428682-Various-Now-Thats-Wha t-I-Call-Music-1985
I can't find any evidence of any edit of this length being released at the time; was this done just to squeeze more songs onto NTWICM '85?

Yup - it's an edit made specifically for the UK's 2-CD Now That's What I Call Music 1985 (1993), sometimes written as Now 1985. My notes say that there's an edit at 2:28 and an absurdly early fade, which cuts the 4-minute song down to 2:48.
The custom edit found its way onto the 2-CD Now The Millennium Series 1985 (1999), too.
It didn't exist when the song was a hit in 1985.
