Here's something to get excited about. If you've been wanting like me to fill in some of those missing gaps in your hot 100 collection on CD of the classic instrumentals, here's the perfect opportunity. The release of a 3CD set called "The Complete Pop Instrumental Hits Of The Sixties: Vol. 1, 1960. We're talking a whopping 3 CDs containing every instrumental that hit the hot 100 during the year 1960!

Covering it all, Rock, R&B, country, and orchestral instrumental Pop - and they appear on the discs in the order that they peaked on the charts! There's over 3 hours of music with 81-tracks and includes no less than 16 appearing for the first time on CD and dozens of genuinely rare tracks - and 45 in true stereo.

All the big names are - there from The Ventures, Chet Atkins, Johnny & the Hurricanes, Percy Faith, Bill Black, Ferrante & Teicher, but then there are names like Monty Kelly, the Ramblers, The Felix Slatkin Orchestra and Charles Wolcott. Who you ask? They all scored instrumental hits in 1960 - in many cases they're just names I've only read about but have never heard - none of which have ever been on CD before now. We'll now be able to fill in those gaps in our collections.

The label releasing this is called "Complete 60s" based out of England. Their research team dug deep in the vaults for the best possible sources and the absolute original hit versions (in true stereo whenever possible). Then, no less than three sound engineers remastered the original recordings until the twangy guitars, pounding drums, and soaring strings just leap out of your speakers.    Writer Greg Adams provides the words for these great instrumentals in the detailed, 28-page liner notes including biographies of all 53 artists, plus release notes and chart information for every track.

To quote the already released information about the CD set "The same creative folks who lovingly compile those great Eric CDs in the States are working on this project" which means this is going to be one steller package! if you love instrumentals (of any kind), Complete Pop Instrumental Hits of the Sixties is the final word! The most exciting part of this release is that it's going to be the first in a series of 10 annual releases of instrumental sets. This will give us every instrumental recorded during the 1960's in the order that they made the charts! Absolutely mind blowing!
Release Date June 21, 2011 - Eric Records will be taking pre orders as of now and will be shipping 3 weeks before anyone else.

Thoroughly enjoying this release. One reason is that it has the correct 45 version of "Josephine" by Bill Black's Combo. Additionally there are four other 45 versions of Bill Black's Combo songs on these discs, all hard to find on cd.

It seems like there was a very strong effort to get the 45 versions of these songs on this release, stereo if it matched the mono 45. Great sound, too. I see that some pretty recognizable names made some contributions to this cd project, and I'm looking forward to the continuation of the series!

While loading the top 40 hits off this set into iTunes, I noticed that tracks 19 & 20 on disc one are backwards from how they are list on the packaging (and on the website and the listing above). On my set, Chattanooga Choo Choo (by Ernie Fields Orchestra) is my track 19, and Summer set (by Monty Kelly) is track 20. Is that the same for everyone else?

Yes, the error in the track listing for disc one is the
same everywhere. Just goes to show you can proof every
detail a dozen times over and still miss something. :-(

Hey! Stuff happens. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I
hadn't been loading just the Top 40 hits.

Still a GREAT set though. Thanks for producing it. And
hopefully, more are on the way soon.
