I apologize if this info is already in the BIG Madonna thread.
The true 45 (on Geffen, released as a single from the soundtrack of Vision Quest) runs 3:58. The fade starts on the downbeat at 3:36 (inside the word "you"), and runs 32 beats to about 3:57. I hear a tiny bit more than the 32 beats at the end, but it's buried in surface noise, so I'll call it 3:58.
The version on the Something To Remember CD runs 4:01, with a fade running from about 3:43 (at the end of the word "baby") to 4:01. It's not quite the 32-beat length of the true 45 fade, and it starts and ends too late. Bottom line: not really the 45 length, as far as this board is concerned.
And you all know about all the remixes on The Immaculate Collection, so no need to elaborate.
If you really want to recreate to true 45 fade, you can start with any of these CDs, all of which sound good on this track (no noise reduction) and (unfortunately) none of which are common:- Geffen's Vision Quest soundtrack (1985, levels a little low)
- Geffen's 4-CD promo Geffen Records A Musical History Of The Decade (1990, differently EQ'd digital clone of Vision Quest and slightly louder, which is good)
- Swaitek's promo A List Disc 27 (1994; sounds quite nice here, no noise reduction; based on a TM Century disc?)
To recreate the 45, start with any of these three, and add a 32-beat sinusoidal fade from the downbeat at 3:37 to the downbeat at 3:57.
