my commercial 45 for the cat stevens song "wild world"
issued as a&m 1231 states the run time as 3:15 but actually
runs 3:18 like most of the db entries.....in the 1971
mono/stereo thread it is noted that this commercial 45 came
in both mono and stereo version.....my 45 does not state
either mono or stereo BUT in the run out groove it's etched
"2072 S P7"....i'm assuming the 'S' means stereo as the
copy i have is stereo....can anyone confirm my hunch?....

S does mean Stereo. So, yours is.

I'm going to take it that the mono never made it on CD. Is it a fold down or a different mix?

I listened awhile back to mono 45 on You Tube.
Kinda scratchy in the beginning, but listened a few
times and did not notice any difference from stereo
version.
I would say a fold down.

I'm bringing this up again in hopes that someone here has the 45 in mono (not the promo 45) of Wild World by Cat Stevens mentioned in the board post list of top 40 by mono/stereo breakdown. I had Aaron look and all he could find was the promo 45. The board listing states that it is in mono and stereo, but there does not appear to be a 45 that is mono to match the stereo pressing.
If anyone can do some digging and shed some light on this, much appreciated. Otherwise I will just assume it was a mono promo and we can adjust the listing accordingly.

I actually have three (3) easily accessible copies of the 45 of "Wild World" (A&M AM-1231).
Two of them are CBS Pitman pressings with the matrix number A&M 2072 P2 (notice no "S"). Both play mono. My third copy is from CBS Terre Haute with different label fonts from the Pitman copies. On this one, the matrix number is A&M 2072 T2 (again, no "S"). It's scratchy, but again, the same music is coming from both speakers. All three are mono!

Thanks for confirming, Tim! I compared the mono version on the promo, and it's a simple fold-down of the stereo.
