Ok, so "Song for the Lonely" never made it into the Top 40. But I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a radio mix of the song that may have been released as a promo. The album version fades out. But sometimes when I hear it on the radio, there's a version played that actually ends cold, with Cher singing sort of accapella. Anyone have any idea where this version might be available? It's not on the maxi-single.

just noted that there's a version on "The Very Best of Cher" that only runs 3:22, while the album version runs 4:01. Does anyone have that disc who could verify how it differs from the LP version? Perhaps this is the cold end version? Thanks

My Promo Only cd contains the LP version that fades out, as does TM Century's library.

For anyone curious (while I'm on a Cher thread kick), Song For The Lonely is the version with cold ending on all pressings of The Very Best Of Cher.

Budaniel, I've recently started organizing some of the promo CD singles I have from 2000 and on, and this one just turned up. Unfortunately, both cuts on it fade out. But there's still always "The Very Best Of Cher."

Cher-"(This Is) A Song For The Lonely" (PRO-CD-100800)

1-Radio Edit (listed 3:30; actual 3:28)
2-Album Version (listed 4:01; actual 4:00)

Jim:

Was a bit surprised to see the run time on my copy of "Believe" from RPM Top Hits U.S.A. whom I was being serviced by in 1999. They have the LP version on my discs.
Since they supposedly service radio stations, I figured they'd have the radio edit, but no.

A quick check at JonesTM (my current subscription provider) shows they also have the album version on their GoldDiscs.

Jim, did your station play the radio edit, or the LP version?

I don't think I've ever heard the radio edit of "Believe." I think the album version was leadoff track on the commercial maxi-single, and as far as I can tell, the same thing I've heard on the radio ever since. What's the difference?
