i have the song 'everything you want' by vertical horizon
on promo cd single issued as rca/bmg rdj65849-2 and
contains the below tracks...

1-modern rock mix (4:06 listed; 4:06 actual)
2-album edit (4:06 listed; 4:06 actual)
3-album version (4:17 listed; 4:17 actual)
4-suggested callout hook (0:13 listed; 0:13 actual)

does anyone else have a promo cd single DIFFERENT than this
one?.....as i see on the board that there is also a 'radio
mix' version which isn't on this cd single

Hi Ed,

I have a copy of the commercial CD single which contains the radio mix, listed as running 4:06. In iTunes the song runs 4:08, so the 4:06 listed time is probably accurate. (It also contains an edit version of another song called "The Man Who Would Be Santa".) Maybe the radio mix wasn't released to radio?

i suspect the "modern rock" and "radio" mixes may be the
same. (4:06)

This was the only mix i ever heard on radio at the time
(opens with acoustic guitar, as opposed to the album
version which opens with a pulsing, electric guitar
effect).
Wasn't till much later i started hearing the LP mix on
some AOR stations.

I can help you, Ed. The answer is yes:

-Vertical Horizon--"Everything You Want" (RDJ 65849-2) (this promo
CD single has an orange silkscreen background, with the letters "VH" in
white. This one came into the station in a typical size jewel case, and
includes both front and back, custom paper inserts. The first two tracks
include "asterisks", indicating they were "Remixed by Tom Lord-Alge.")

1-Radio Mix (listed & actual 4:08)
2-Alternate Mix (listed 4:06; actual 4:05)
3-Album Edit (listed 4:05; actual 4:06)
4-Suggested Callout Hook (:13)

But I own another promo CD single for this song as well, besides the
"Modern Rock Mix" promo that Ed has already documented. When the
song "took off", more promo CD single copies were apparently needed.
These promos had no silkscreening; just typical black, RCA type on the
silver, top side of the CD. Also inside a typical size jewel case, this one
included no front or back paper inserts, however. This promo CD single
had a different "stock #". And its contents exactly mirror those of the
65849 promo. (Although Cut 3 of this later promo states some
incorrect details, as documented below.) I just wanted to make this
small clarification here, in case someone saw a copy of either one of
these available on-line. Now will you know what you can expect to
actually receive. Here are this copy's exact particulars:

-Vertical Horizon--"Everything You Want" (RSP 65880-2)

1-Radio Mix (listed 4:05; actual 4:08)
2-Alternate Mix (listed 4:06; actual 4:05)
3-Album Version (listed 4:17; actual 4:06)
4-Suggested Callout Hook (:13)

This song was issued in two commercial single formats in the US: a CD single and
a 7-inch vinyl single. Both indicate they contain the “radio mix”, but
since the two versions are different, at least one of the notations must
be wrong.

The CD single (which was not released until the song had been on the
Hot 100 for close to six months) has the acoustic guitar opening, so it
would appear to actually be the “radio mix”. The vinyl 45 (issued about
two months before the CD single) starts with the “pulsing, electric guitar
effect” that Mark describes and runs (4:06). I don’t have any of the
promos described above, but this would appear to be the “album edit”
and not the “radio mix” as the label claims.

The vinyl 45 includes the "alternate mix" not the "radio mix" as stated on the record label.
