Absolutely nowhere on CD (or LP), Ed, legal or otherwise, and I've searched
and searched. In 1967, it was a 45-only release. Apparently, when Collectors'
Choice re-issued his original Reprise LPs on CD, they tried to license/include
both this song and other non-LP stragglers as "bonus tracks", but were
rebuffed in their efforts, so those CDs had to come out as straight LP re-
issues.
It was released as a 45 in many countries, however. Our best hope for a top
quality de-vinyl source (although both my stock and promo styrene Reprise
45s for it are in great shape) would surely be either a cherry Canadian or
Aussie original vinyl 45, where the song also got significant airplay as a
current.

Before June ends there is a new twenty track "hits" compilation to be released by the Charly label (a UK label) that will include this spoken word top 40 hit. Will it be mono (like the 45 was) or stereo? Nobody knows yet but supposedly it will be sourced from master tape instead of vinyl. We will see. Just wanted to pass this info along in case there is anyone still looking for this one. BTW, the title of this new CD release is "I've Gotta Be Me: The Very Best Of Sammy Davis Jr."

Apparently this song is circulating among collectors. I have a clean copy from what I would assume to be a vinyl source. I can't reveal my source, but then I don't know his source and their source and so on. Will be interesting to see the Charly collection.

Hi folks,
Well, Jimct purchased this new Charly CD "I've Gotta Be
Me: The Very Best Of Sammy Davis Jr." and sent me a wav
file of "Don't Blame The Children" for analysis.
I'm sorry to report that the sound is dreadful. For
starters, it is from a record and it was in bad shape.
They ran a heavy de-clicker over it so the hi-end is very
distorted.
On top of that, the pitch is way too fast. The 45 runs
(3:40). But this copy runs (3:29) because it is almost a
full semi-tone too fast. (!!!) It is remotely possible
that a European single was released at that speed and
they used that instead of a U.S. pressing. There is also
a frequency cut-off at 19k. I don't know if that's
because they used an mp3 as the source, or if it was
caused by bad noise processing that shaved off the top
frequencies.
Either way, there was zero quality control here.
It would not have been that difficult to locate a mint
copy of this record. These were pressed on very decent
styrene and if you get one in good shape it will sound
very clean.
Rating: AVOID
Edit: I didn't even address the biggest question: If this
is a legit CD, why is it from vinyl at all? Lost tape?
Hard to believe. This was issued in almost every European
country as a single or EP.
